Position description

The Moslehi Lab is now recruiting for a Junior Specialist. The incumbent will pursue several projects related to the growing concerns of cardiovascular toxicities associated with cancer immunotherapies and other chemotherapeutic drugs. We are currently generating and characterizing pre-clinical mouse models that recapitulate the cardiovascular toxicities associated with novel cancer immunotherapies like immune checkpoint inhibitor myocarditis and using these models to elucidate underlying cardiovascular and immunological biology. In parallel, these scientific observations are coupled with a robust clinical surveillance program. The incumbent will help in better characterizing these pre-clinical models including both cell-based and small-animal models. The incumbent may also assist in the translational and clinical projects of the Moslehi Lab and the UCSF Cardio-Oncology Section. We hope that these pre-clinical models will better inform clinical care for the expanding cardio-oncology patient population.

The incumbent will gain experience in various molecular biology techniques such as flow cytometry, western blot, single-cell/single nuclear RNA sequencing. The incumbent will also contribute to bioinformatic analysis of sequencing data on platforms such as Seurat/R. The incumbent will also be expected to work with mouse models and related animal analyses such as electrocardiogram (ECG)/echocardiogram.

Required qualifications:

* Must have (or in process of obtaining) a B.A. in biology/related topic or equivalent research experience.

* Self-motivated and able to learn quickly.

* Demonstrated effective communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively with other members of the team toward carrying out the broader goals of the laboratory.

* Proven ability to effectively manage time, successfully work on multiple concurrent projects, and meet deadlines.

* Ability to conduct literature reviews and contribute to manuscript preparation or revision.

* Applicants must meet all required qualifications by time of hire.

Preferred qualifications:

* Previous experience with mouse handling and/or colony maintenance

* Previous flow cytometry experience

* Working knowledge of Seurat/R

* Interest in cardio-oncology or immunology
