Position: Integrated Behavioral Health Clinician

Department: Family Medicine

Schedule: Full time

POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the direction of the integrated behavioral health services within the Department of Psychiatry, the Integrated Behavioral Health Clinician works as a member of the Family Medicine Clinic. Family Medicine provides care for all members of a family. The role of the clinician is to work collaboratively with the family medicine team to ensure the behavioral health and substance use needs of the patients are met. The clinician will utilize trauma-informed, strengths-based evidence-based techniques and theories in providing clinical care to patients and families. Clinical work includes, but are not limited to, conducting psychosocial assessments, crisis interventions, making a psychosocial diagnosis, planning and implementing effective short-term treatments, evaluation, education and mentoring of the patient and family members. The clinician may co-facilitate Group for patients living with opioid use disorders or other groups that are clinically indicated. The Integrated Behavioral Health Clinician will focus on assessment, stabilization, triage and evidence-based treatment over short course of therapy sessions (time-limited). Patients who may need higher level of care or more intensive behavioral health services will be assisted with referrals and connection to our outpatient department of psychiatry and/or community-based care. Clinician will work closely with providers in providing consultation and support in understanding the behavioral health and substance use needs of the patients and collaborate together on patient's treatment goals. The Clinician will work closely with a team of other clinicians, psychologists and psychiatrists within the Family Medicine clinic. The position is currently hybrid, which may change based on hospital expectations

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES / DUTIES:

  • Previous experience in Integrated Behavioral Health or Medical Setting preferred.
  • Requires level of knowledge of Social Work process and community resources and agencies in relation to health, illness, and disability, and social determinants of health
  • Advanced interpersonal skills necessary to interact effectively with various healthcare professionals, to develop and maintain effective therapeutic relationships with patients and families
  • Cultural sensitivity and comfort with a wide range of racial and ethnic populations. Cultural humility is very important.
  • Bicultural/Bilingual competency a plus.
  • Ability to work in an interdisciplinary team.
  • Computer literacy with ability to use standard word processing, spreadsheet programs and e-mail (i.e. MS Word, Excel, Outlook) and web browsers.
  • Must be comfortable in a fast paced and dynamic work environment (sense of humor is valued).

Other Responsibilities:


  • Attendance at IBH and Psychiatry meetings and in-service education program offerings through the Department of Psychiatry
  • Attendance at primary clinic meetings under the direction of supervisor
  • Obtaining continuing education as necessary to maintain licensure
  • Performs other duties as needed.
  • Utilizes hospital's behavioral standards as the basis for decision making and to facilitate the hospital's mission.
  • Follows established hospital infection control and safety procedures.
  • Maintains patient confidentiality according to hospital policy. Practices professional discretion when determining the inclusion of any patient information into medical record or department clinical record notes.
  • Documents each patient encounter in the medical record or the Department clinical record concurrently according to Department policies
  • Utilizes hospital's behavioral standards as the basis for decision making and to facilitate the hospital's mission

JOB REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION:

Requires Master's Degree from an accredited school of Social Work or school of Mental Health Counseling or related field as determined by the Board of Registration of Allied Mental Health and Human Services Professions or National Certified Counselor (NCC) preparing for licensure as an LMHC

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED:

Requires a current Massachusetts Licensed Certified Social Worker (LCSW), Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW), or Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) or obtain Licensed Certified Social Worker (LCSW) with 6 months of hire date ) or Professions or National Certified Counselor (NCC) preparing for licensure as an LMHC
