HJF is seeking a Research Nurse Practitioner I to serve as a research team member and be responsible for participant recruitment and meeting target, positive vaginal culture recruitment goal. Will work in outpatient research situations as part of a large research team. Research clinical responsibilities include performing speculum exams for the purpose of collecting vaginal samples, routing research samples to Site microbiology lab, tracking laboratory results, and reporting weekly recruitment numbers and research outcomes to the research team.

This position will be in support of the Uniformed Services University Daniel K. Inouye's Graduate School of Nursing in the Military Women's Health Program located in Bethesda, MD. The Research Nurse Practitioner will be located at the Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, TX. The primary objective is to establish lay user performance criteria (sensitivity and specificity) for the SavvyCheck Vaginal Yeast Test in comparison to the Reference Method (vaginal Candida yeast culture).

Responsibilities

  • Knowledgeable and proficient with the content of women's health care. Collects, organizes, catalogs, disseminates, and maintains appropriate files of current data.
  • Assists in writing and/or editing, organization and management of protocols. Supports protocols at Institutional Review Boards (IRBs).
  • Educates participants on research protocol, purpose of the research, procedures, participant responsibilities, answers questions, and discusses risks and benefits of participation. Explains Informed Consent for research protocol(s).
  • Provides assistance, consultation, assessment and monitoring of research subjects participating in or being evaluated for enrollment in research studies for actual and/or potential health problems.
  • Performs vaginal specula exams on study participants and maintains records of results. Prescribes appropriate therapies within the limits established by the protocol.
  • Assists with the management of participants which may include clinic set up, booking appointments, returning phone calls and handing out appropriate research study information.
  • Reports to and provides direct feedback to Senior and Site-Principal Investigators and monitor the quality of participation as well as issues that affect strict protocol adherence and research operations.
  • May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the Senior and Site-Principal Investigators. This may include attendance of and participation in required training for the role.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Master's Degree in Nursing
  • Minimum of 3-5 years experience required

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Consistent evidence of excellence in attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of procedures and techniques necessary for performing research clinical responsibilities related to research protocols.
  • Knowledge of the causes of acute and recurrent vaginitis.
  • Self-directed and demonstrates ability to take initiative and adhere to protocol procedures; excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • The ability to maintain accurate and complete files.
  • US Citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain a T1/Public Trust background check.

Licenses and Certifications

  • Nurse Practitioner License

Work Environment

  • This position will take place primarily in a clinic setting at Brooke Army Medical Center, San Antonio TX.

Compensation

  • The hourly pay range for this position is $42.59-$48.07. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, education, etc.
