Position Summary

DRS Network & Imaging Systems in Cypress, CA is part of the Electro-Optical and Infrared Systems Group of Leonardo DRS and has over 30 years of experience in designing and developing electro-optical/infrared systems. We are seeking a Senior Technical Intern to join the company to support engineering staff by performing research, design support, documentation, engineering calculations, testing and verification, and other related tasks as skills allow. They will work closely with and assist engineers in the conduct of various engineering assignments. The candidate must be a well-organized self-starter, able to work in a team environment, have good communication and technical skills, and able to professionally interact with others.

Basic Qualifications and Required Skills
  • Pursuing undergraduate or Master's in Physics or an Engineering curriculum, 3rd Year status minimum
  • Must be enrolled in an accredited university and maintain a 3.3or higher GPA
  • Be available to work part-time (<30 hours per week)
  • U.S. Citizenship status is required as this position will require the ability to access US only data systems
Additional Desirable Qualifications, Skills and Knowledge
  • Experience working in a laboratory environment
  • Knowledge of Lab Equipment Operation
  • Strong skills with Matlab, Labview, and MSOffice (Word and Excel)
  • Excellent written, verbal and presentation skills
Job Duties and Responsibilities
  • Work closely with and assist engineers in the conduct of various engineering assignments
  • Provide regular reporting of progress and status
  • Complete assigned tasks on time
  • Gather and assemble data for engineers
  • Conduct design analysis and/or calculations under the supervision of engineers
  • Assist engineers with appropriate design details and drafting
  • Perform a wide variety of tasks to gain familiarity with the engineering staff, methods, programs, and practices
  • Support, communicate, reinforce, and defend the mission, values, and culture of the organization

The expected pay scale for this position is $20.27/hour - $27.87/hour. Should the level, location, or scope of the position change during the hiring process, the pay scale may be modified accordingly. When extending an offer of employment, Leonardo DRS considers factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position; any Federal Government contract labor categories and contract wage rates, the candidate's relevant work experience, education/training, certifications, and key skills; internal equity; and market and business considerations.
