A Brief Overview
Under the direction of the Vice Chair Administration and in conjunction with the Associate Radiologist-in-Chief, Associate Chair of Quality and Associate Chair of Patient Safety, this position is responsible for and has authority for managing (planning, organizing, staffing, influencing, and controlling) all components of quality improvement and patient safety in the department of Radiology.

The Senior Quality Manager (referred to as "Manager") collaborates with leadership on program development and implementation of initiatives in support of strategic and/or operating plan. The Manager works closely with Radiology Directors, Radiology Leaders and Specialists to develop and facilitate relationships with clinical and executive leadership in support of clinical quality improvement and patient safety activities. The Manager will prioritize, delegate, integrate and coordinate the team's work. The Manager will be the primary person in the department responsible for recruiting, hiring, and onboarding new staff onto the team and directly managing the staff (goal setting, performance reviews and periodic individual meetings). This is a working manager position; the Manager will maintain a subset of clinical quality improvement projects, oversee a portfolio of patient safety initiatives and workflows and work with department leaders to implement and evaluate effectiveness of improvement initiatives.

What you will do

  • Works with the leadership to ensure program growth and alignment with clinical and operational priorities and departmental strategic plan.
  • Represents the departmental quality team to executive and department leadership; provides annual and other reports as requested.
  • Leads cross functional teams in risk assessments, apparent cause analyses, common cause analyses, and root cause analyses.
  • Monitors and seeks feedback from project leads on the quality and effectiveness of the services provided.
  • Develops educational and training materials appropriate for clinical personnel to build capacity in quality improvement and patient safety methodologies.
  • Coordinates relationships with collaborative services (e.g., nursing, Patient Safety, CHQA, and ambulatory services).
  • Creates an environment which is blame free, where a spirit of inquiry flourishes and thinking outside the box and taking risks is a system priority for the sake of continuous improvement.
  • Facilitates Quality Committee meetings.
  • Staff recruiting, coaching, development and supervision; serves in lead role to onboard and orient new staff to the team.
  • Works with individual staff to develop goals, objectives and skill development plans for each employee; conducts regularly scheduled small group and/or 1:1 meetings with staff to monitor and manage performance.
  • Provides guidance to employees incorporating their perceived development needs, feedback from project leads and direct observation of performance.
  • Maintains the portfolio of Radiology quality and safety projects, including quality specialist assignments.
  • Promotes organizational transformation by advising on the planning and execution of clinical improvement efforts throughout the organization.
  • Facilitates team meetings to ensure achievement of team and project goals.
  • Communicates to varying levels of internal clients, executives, other department leads, and other groups as needed.

Education Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree Required
  • Master's Degree in healthcare, quality, engineering, or business-related fields of study. Preferred

Experience Qualifications

  • At least five (5) years experience working at increasing levels of leadership responsibility in quality improvement or patient safety Required and
  • At least five (5) years of demonstrated leadership experience managing cross-functional work teams Required and
  • Quality improvement and/or patient safety work in healthcare setting Preferred

Skills and Abilities

  • Must exhibit excellent oral, presentation, and written communication skills. (Required proficiency)
  • Must possess critical thinking and creative problem-solving skills along with the ability to communicate well with stakeholders throughout the organization. (Required proficiency)
  • Strong project management and organizational skills. (Required proficiency)

Licenses and Certifications

  • Six Sigma Green Belt (CSSGB) - American Society for Quality (ASQ) - within 6 months - Required
  • Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ) - National Association for Healthcare Quality (NAHQ) - - Preferred
