Job Summary:

The Continuing Education Program Manager works closely with the Vice Chair of Faculty Development and Promotions (VC-FDP) to support the mission of the Department of Family Medicine and Community Health (DFMCH) and its Office of Faculty Development and Promotions (OFDP). The Manager will help develop a comprehensive program to support faculty in clinical care, teaching, scholarship, community engagement, professionalism, and well-being. This individual will serve as the department resource and expert on Continuing Professional Development.

The Manager will oversee the creation and curation of resources within the DFMCH, coordinating with the School of Medicine and Public Health Office of Faculty Affairs & Development (SMPH OFAD) and in partnership with the VC-FDP. The role involves conducting an initial environmental scan and needs assessment, followed by annual assessments to guide program development and improvements. This individual will manage and monitor faculty development and engagement programs, ensuring they are aligned with the department's goals.

A key responsibility of the Manager will be supporting faculty scholarly activity within the department. They will support faculty by creating or curating content, coaching junior faculty on scholarly projects and the resources to support their work, and assisting with asynchronous learning resources.

The ideal candidate will be proactive, self-sufficient, and skilled in content creation, coaching, and supporting faculty development. Strong communication, multitasking, and web resource skills are required, as well as the ability to manage competing priorities and work across units. Excellent administrative, organizational, and interpersonal skills are essential for navigating the dynamic academic and research environment.


Responsibilities:
Provides guidance for program planning, implementation, and evaluation, and/or supervises non-credit staff. Applies and implements tools and technology that support continuing education opportunities to the institution.

  • 25% Supervises the implementation of non-credit continuing education-focused strategic planning initiatives and objectives
  • 20% Develops and implements operating policies and procedures to promote the non-credit program in alignment with the strategic plan
  • 5% May monitor the unit or program budget and approve program expenditures
  • 25% Reviews recommendations for and provides input on the design and development of new non-credit programs or services
  • 5% May exercise supervisory authority, including hiring, transferring, suspending, promoting, managing conduct and performance, discharging, assigning, rewarding, disciplining, and/or approving hours worked of at least 2.0 FTE or equivalent employees
  • 5% Coordinates with Promotions and Mentoring Team to support career development.
  • 5% Offers individual professional coaching, direction, and guidance to junior faculty to support scholarship and career advancement, with a focus on CHS track faculty.
  • 5% Facilitates faculty access to internal and external resources to support scholarship and career development, e.g., connection with collaborators, skill-building resources, etc.
  • 5% Identifies opportunities for linkages between the Department, School of Medicine and Public Health, and UW Health to support faculty development, promotions and mentoring, research and scholarship opportunities.

Qualifications:

Required:
- Ability to communicate effectively and professionally, both orally and in writing.
- Expertise in designing and developing training materials related to faculty professional development.
- Strong customer service skills to address concerns, questions, and issues from faculty.
- Knowledge of the related principles and procedures: program development and design; course and media production; strategic planning and change management; staff development and team building; instructional and universal design; adult education and evaluation; and curriculum and professional development.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and maintain effective working relationships with staff and faculty in a team-based environment, while maintaining confidentiality when required.
- Excellent organization and prioritization skills and ability to manage competing priorities and work across units.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel) and other web-based platforms.

Preferred:
- Demonstrated skill in communications and human relations with a diverse stakeholder group and collaborators, including faculty and staff.

Travel is required. Must provide a valid driver's license. Employees may use their own transportation or receive approval for University Car Fleet usage. The starting salary for the position is $68,176 but is negotiable based on experience and qualifications.
