Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
The Department of Public Health Leadership and Practice ( PHLP) is one of eight departments in the Gillings School of Global Public Health. Combined, the department has 15 faculty with diverse disciplinary backgrounds, 66 adjunct faculty and over 70 professional staff.

The department is the administrative home to three concentrations in the Gillings Master of Public Health ( MPH) degree: Leadership in Practice, Population Health for Clinicians and Placed Based Health. Additionally, our program provides the co-lead and supports the cross-cutting Global Health MPH concentration and the Executive DrPH in Public Health Leadership.

With over 500 students, PHLP is home to the largest number of MPH students in the Gillings School of Global Public Health and provides a supportive environment for educational innovation in online, residential and distance teaching formats. In addition to these MPH degrees the program offers three Certificates: Field EPID, Public Health Leadership and Global Health.

The department also is the operational home for the NC Institute for Public Health which provides continuing education, professional development, and technical assistance to state and local public health agencies across NC and nationally. Our mission is to equip public health leaders with the technical and strategic skills needed to improve population and community health outcomes and advance equity.
Position Summary
The Executive Assistant supports the Public Health Leadership and Practice department chair. This position is responsible for heavy scheduling for the Chair and groups both internal and external to the department and UNC; it also is responsible for a significant communications role, responding to various parties on behalf of the Chair; working with the department Chair to manage their email account, travel arrangements and reimbursements, and sharing responsibility for the department website and alumni relations; drafting and editing various confidential and sensitive correspondence; gathering information and data; and keeping the Chair informed of relevant issues as they may affect the responsibilities of the Chair position; developing and implementing suggestions and recommendations for improvement in Chair's office and department level policies and procedures; Coordinate and manage the overall APT process, ensuring compliance with institutional policies and procedures. The position oversees the day-to-day functions of the Chair's Office. For all functions it is expected that this position serves in a high-level professional capacity.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
High school diploma or equivalency and three years of progressively responsible administrative/office management experience; or Associate's degree in secretarial science, business administration, or a related discipline and one year of progressively responsible administrative/office management experience ; or Bachelor's degree, preferably in business administration or a related discipline; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

Experience with software programs such as Microsoft Office 365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Office, Teams, OneNote), Zoom, Adobe Acrobat, Qualtrics survey software
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Ability to coordinate and manage academic/practice functions for three units. Ability to gather data, analyze and report needs/results. Ability to manage and coordinate expenditures for PHLP to ensure teaching and research activities are supported. Problem solving skills regarding teaching/academic/research needs and processes. Ability to supervise and direct work study student(s). Prepare written documents for internal and external partners on behalf of director.
