Overview

PRIMARY PURPOSE

Directly accountable for strategic development, daily operation, budget performance and execution of the defined strategic objectives and KRA's associated with Advocate Health's Clinical Engineering operations within multiple service areas or a single market, as assigned. This is a hybrid position. The leader will be able to work remotely but is also expected to travel to site locations to round with the leadership team and staff.

Major Responsibilities

  • Accountability for financial operating budget to manage service of equipment inventories of greater than $595 million and less than $1 billion in acquisition costs and responsibility. Oversight of greater than 3 operation managers.
  • Ensures compliance with all regulatory and accreditation requirements for the Clinical Engineering program at the supported location(s) and enforces the Medical Equipment Management Plan.
  • Oversees equipment performance management and service providers to maintain the highest patient care and safety standards. Manages prompt resolutions such as replacing equipment or ending vendor partnerships when necessary. Identifies issues needing escalation and provides actionable recommendations to Customer and Clinical Engineering leaders for timely resolution.
  • Collaborates closely with clinical, operational, and medical staff to develop effective and value-oriented maintenance strategies.
  • Monitors and oversees the financial performance within assigned areas of responsibility. Reports Clinical Engineering performance data to Clinical engineering site, area, and/or market leadership through participation Physical Environment committees, monthly operational reviews, and other clinical department groups.
  • Works with Clinical Engineering Strategy, Supply Chain, and clinical customer leadership to develop and implement medical equipment capital plans.
  • Manages the integration of Clinical Engineering operations into new facilities, mergers, corporate physician practices, and clinics, including evaluating staffing, reviewing existing service methods, and auditing equipment inventory records.
  • Designs and directs the work of the assigned area(s) of responsibility. Selects, coaches, and develops teams, setting objectives that align with organizational strategy to inspire and motivate the teams. Manages organizational talent through performance management, succession planning, and development. Designs and directs processes by which team and individual performance are recognized, feedback is consistently delivered, and performance is systematically improved.
  • Develops and/or recommends operating and capital budgets and controls expenditures within approved budget objectives.
  • Responsible for understanding and adhering to the organization's Code of Ethical Conduct and for ensuring that people actions, and the actions of employees supervised, comply with the policies, regulations, and laws applicable to the organization's business.

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS

Education

Associate's degree in Electronics, Computer Science, Biomedical Science, or related field

Work Experience

  • 7 years in Clinical Engineering or equivalent technical discipline.
  • 3 years of management-level experience.

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

  • Ability to make independent decisions and manage tasks autonomously.
  • Proficient in both oral and written communication, with strong organizational, prioritization, and statistical analysis skills.
  • Skilled in using PowerPoint, Excel, and other business software.
  • Experienced public speaker.
  • Proven expertise in leading and facilitating group meetings and team projects.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and customer service skills, with the capability to maintain a calm, professional demeanor during high-pressure situations, demonstrating effective crisis management abilities.
  • Experienced in mentoring and developing individuals.
  • Knowledgeable about Computer Maintenance and Management Systems' structure and functions.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Requires local and regional travel, so the incumbent will be exposed to road and weather conditions.
  • Operates all equipment necessary to perform the duties of the job.
