Job Summary

Receives technical project management assignments in the form of objectives with goals and the process by which to meet goals. Provides direction to staff according to established policies and management guidance. Administers policies that directly affect subordinate staff. Recommends changes to department policies and practices. Identifies risks and responds accordingly. Provide priority setting and workflow analysis. Works with IT PMO director to set and enforce PMO standards. Directly manages 5-10 project managers in support of Enterprise Application-related projects (supporting the Enterprise Application, IT Education, and IT Research organizations).

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

The salary range for this position is $105,900 - $225,900 (Annual Rate).

Department Description

The UCSF IT Department provides centralized IT services to all aspects of the UCSF mission including patient care, research, and education in addition to support for enterprise-wide administrative systems. Additionally, UCSF IT works closely with a variety of more specialized departmentally-based IT services to provide common services, IT architectures, and frameworks in the areas of infrastructure technology, integration/interfaces, information management (e.g. master data management, clinical data warehousing), security, enterprise systems of record and IT service management processes and tools. UCSF IT is actively engaged at the UC System level to identify and implement leveraged solutions and services but also to leverage the experience and skillset across the UC system to meet the rapidly escalating information technology needs of the institution. This offers employees the opportunity to be exposed to and engaged in a broad swath of the UC business and advanced technologies and professionals within UCSF and the UC System.

Required Qualifications


  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, computer science or information systems or equivalent
  • 6+ years with an emphasis in project management, project management office supervision, information technology leadership, or a related field.
  • 6+ years in a project management role
  • Requires advanced knowledge of project management principles, theories, and concepts.
  • Broad knowledge of technology-related initiatives and an understanding of impact to the organization of such initiatives.
  • Requires highly effective organization, supervisory and project management skills.
  • Possesses effective written and verbal communication skills to convey technical information in a clear and concise manner.
  • Has superior technical project management knowledge.
  • Mastery of best practices in project management discipline required.
  • Has an understanding of how programs relate to other business strategies and initiatives.
  • Is able to establish priorities, goals / objectives and timelines.
  • Demonstrates ability to delegate and oversee assignments to ensure successful and timely completion as well as to obtain the cooperation of others within and outside the unit.
  • Works in a collaborative manner to achieve results.
  • Requires conceptual and planning skills.
  • Demonstrated skill in managing technical staff.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications


  • Advanced knowledge of all aspects of computing and communications including hardware infrastructure, networking, software, operations and disaster recovery.
  • Project Management Profession (PMP)

License/Certification


  • Project Management Profession (PMP) or 6+ years in a project management role
