Customer Service Representative II

Summary

Responsible for circulating library materials by maintaining a patron and library material database, handling circulation-related problems in absence of supervisor, and assisting the circulation staff in performing related clerical work and light manual tasks.

Pay Range: $15.54 - 19.25 (Depending on qualifications and experience)

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

• Provide information and customer service in person and over the telephone. Issue library patron cards.

• Enter patrons into a database that allows citizens to borrow materials from the library.

• Ensure the continuous operation of the library circulation function by operating personals computers, assessing and collecting fines for overdue materials and sending overdue notices.

Minimum Qualifications

• Two-year Associate degree

• 2-3 years work experience in a retail or service environment using computer technologies

Or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.

Preferred Qualifications

Education/ Experience:

• Two-year Associate degree in library technology with coursework in circulation services

• 2-3 years experience in a public library setting

• Ability to speak and read Spanish at the intermediate level

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

• Knowledge of library organization and cataloguing systems

• Knowledge of alpha and numerical filing systems

• Skill operating a computer keyboard

• Skill in cash handling

• Skill multitasking

• Ability to type 40 words per minute

• Ability to organize materials according to alpha and numeric system

• Ability to sit or stand for long periods of time

• Ability to lift objects

• Ability to communicate and interact effectively with the public

• Ability to handle citizen concerns and other public/personal situations

Licenses and Certifications

• Valid Class C Texas driver's license
