Job Overview

The Senior Director, Marketing Technology & Loyalty provides strategic and technological leadership for marketing technology and loyalty systems, including digital content management, digital asset management, customer journey orchestration, customer data management, real-time offers, loyalty, and advertising workflow systems. This role collaborates with business partners across Macy's Technology, Macy's Product Organization, Macy's Strategy & Analytics, and other teams to define, socialize, and secure buy-in for the strategic vision within these areas. The Senior Director leads the development of technology and system solutions to meet business needs while managing all resources involved. The ideal candidate demonstrates extensive domain knowledge in retail, loyalty programs, personalization, and the Mar-tech stack, staying up-to-date with industry and competitive trends. A clear understanding of future technology trends and a proven record of innovation are essential. This role drives product modernization efforts for personalization journeys, loyalty and the marketing technology stack, incorporating industry best practices and external insights into overall product roadmaps.

What You Will Do



  • Collaborate with Macy's business partners to identify opportunities for improving sales, margin, or profit through technology-based solutions.
  • Provide integrated technological leadership to business organizations to ensure applications and systems align with business goals.
  • Stay current with emerging trends in the retail industry, technology, and software development to develop appropriate solutions.
  • Integrate purchased applications and design custom software to meet the evolving needs of the business.
  • Monitor the progress of multiple major projects and tasks, reallocating resources as needed.
  • Manage current applications and development initiatives, focusing on usability, reliability, stability, and quality.
  • Ensure major projects are delivered on time and within budget.
  • Revise system development plans to adapt to rapidly changing business needs and requirements.
  • Foster partnerships within Macy's Tech to coordinate projects, integrate systems, and leverage shared services and middleware connectivity.
  • Plan and manage expense and capital budgets.
  • Ensure the organizational structure is efficiently planned and properly staffed.
  • Develop staff by providing feedback, conducting performance evaluations, supporting career development plans, and offering coaching and mentoring. Ensure clear, measurable work goals are set and monitored for all team members.
  • Demonstrate regular, dependable attendance and punctuality.
  • In addition to the essential duties mentioned above, other duties may be assigned.



Skills You Will Need

Executive Leadership: Proven experience managing large, complex technology initiatives in distributed computing environments.

Budget Management: Expertise in managing significant expense and capital budgets (e.g., tens of millions of dollars).

Team Leadership & Development: Ability to direct large teams, manage project implementation, and mentor staff through feedback, performance evaluations, and career development.

Strategic Thinking: Ability to think both operationally and strategically, with strong analytical skills to process diverse data and formulate cohesive action plans.

Stakeholder Engagement: Experience influencing and engaging business partners, gaining acceptance, and winning the confidence of senior technology and business leaders.

Collaboration & Communication: Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to interact with both technical and non-technical teams and convey complex concepts clearly.

Project Management: Skilled in managing multiple projects, prioritizing tasks, and ensuring timely delivery while staying focused on key objectives.

Persuasion & Negotiation: Strong persuasive abilities to influence stakeholders through professional negotiation and communication.

Cultural Leadership: Ability to foster a culture of motivation, positivity, and empowerment, and recognize and develop diverse talent within the team.

Adaptability & Problem Solving: Resourceful, adaptable, and able to solve complex problems in fast-paced, changing environments.

Operational Excellence: Ensures high levels of usability, reliability, stability, and quality in systems and applications.

Industry Knowledge: In-depth understanding of retail, personalization, and Mar-tech stacks, with a focus on emerging trends and innovative technology solutions.

Product/Project Ownership: Strong desire to take ownership of products and projects, ensuring successful implementation and alignment with business goals.

Adobe Marketing Cloud Expertise: Deep understanding of the Adobe Marketing Cloud ecosystem, including Adobe Experience Platform (AEP), Adobe Journey Optimizer (AJO), Adobe Target, Adobe Analytics, and Adobe Real-Time Customer Data Platform (RT-CDP). Experience architecting and integrating these solutions into a modern marketing technology stack.

Customer Journey Orchestration: Proven experience designing and implementing omnichannel customer journeys using Adobe Journey Optimizer (AJO). Ability to create seamless, data-driven customer experiences across email, push, SMS, and web personalization.

Customer Data Management & Integration: Strong background in Adobe Real-Time CDP and AEP for unifying customer data, building robust audience segments, and ensuring activation across multiple marketing channels. Knowledge of data pipelines, identity resolution, and API integrations with CRM, loyalty platforms, and other first-party data sources.

Marketing Automation & Workflow Management: Hands-on experience with marketing automation platforms, for orchestrating multi-step marketing campaigns across multiple touchpoints. Ability to work with business users to define campaign logic, data triggers, and execution workflows.

Cloud & API-first Architecture: Strong experience with native cloud technologies, particularly GCP. Experience integrating SaaS solutions with enterprise platforms. Strong understanding of REST APIs, event-driven architectures, and middleware solutions for real-time data exchange.

  • 15+ years of experience in software engineering, engineering management, and delivering large-scale transformation initiatives in retail.
  • Regularly required to sit, talk, hear; use hands/fingers to touch, handle, and feel. Occasionally required to move about the workplace and reach with hands and arms. Requires close vision.
