Under the supervision and guidance from the Senior Manager, Online Student Services , the Online Student Success Coach is an essential role within the Office of Online Learning, providing direct support to students in order to enhance the retention and persistence efforts for students in online programs. The Online Student Success Coach will focus on goal setting, motivation, and relationship building, utilizing retention best-practices and appreciative coaching models. Working closely with the Senior Online Student Success Coach, the Online Student Success Coach will work with students in online programs throughout the Online student Journey (registration through graduation) by working with systems and processes to address student success, retention, and program completion. The Online Student Success Coach will collaborate with the Online Learning team, academic advisors, and other campus partners to ensure that students in online programs receive a high-quality, accessible, enriching education that prepares them for successful careers, post-graduate education, and lifelong learning in a multicultural, global, and technological society.

Duties/Responsibilities
(55%) Direct Support to Students

  • Collaborates with the Online Learning team, academic advisors, and other offices on campus to provide comprehensive support to students in online programs.
  • Monitors progress of students in online programs with check-ins, scheduled meetings, and email campaigns, responding to students' questions, concerns, and needs.
  • Utilizes data and monitors reports to drive proactive outreach and communication.
  • Conducts coaching through individual or group sessions in order for students to meet the requirements of the Online Student Scholarship.
  • Assists students in developing self-efficacy by identifying and overcoming obstacles that may be impeding academic success.
  • Works with students to learn strong time management and organization skills; motivates students to practice self-regulation and take ownership of their academic success.
  • Helps students identify, develop, and implement learning strategies and study skills specific to course materials.
  • Refers students to appropriate academic personnel and support resources, collaborating with colleagues to monitor and accelerate the academic progress of the students referred.

(20%) Programming and Administration

  • In collaboration with the Senior Online Student Success Coach, utilizes best practices to update the Teams group as needed.
  • Works with the Online Student Services team, and cross-campus colleagues, including advisors and department contacts, to develop and implement programming to support the academic success and retention of students in online programs.
  • Helps to identify process improvement areas, student support needs, and online learning engagement strategies to ensure a higher percentage of student retention.
  • Co-creates informational resources, website development, student outreach, and any other resources needed for online student success.
  • Learns about, promotes, and supports all online degree programs and resources.

(15%) Support Student Success Using Online Systems

  • Uses a variety of technology to create meaningful interactions and support for students, not limited to, but including Teams, Canvas, and LinkedIn Learning.
  • Utilizes internal systems to manage communication and interactions with students, providing data and reports to the supervisor as needed.

(10%) Professional Development and Other Duties as Assigned

  • Performs additional duties as assigned by the Executive Director and Senior Manager, Online Student Services including but not limited to programs and special projects within the Office of Online Learning, service on various University committees/task forces related to student retention and academic support issues, and event planning.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • 2+ years of experience in higher education or a similar field with demonstrated experience in coaching, advising, or student success efforts.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience working with diverse and underrepresented populations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience designing inclusive programming that responds to a diverse student population.
  • Experience with technology and online systems such as Banner, Student Success Collaborative (SSC), and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Collaborative self-starter with motivation and experience working in a hybrid work environment.

Salary for Announcement

Under Colorado law, MSU Denver is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role and should not offer a salary outside of the range posted in this job announcement. This range takes into account a variety of factors including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, analysis of internal equity, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience.

The salary range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $41,200 - $51,500.The full salary range is $41,200 - $61,800.

This position is paid monthly and is eligible for MSU Denver benefits.

  • Full-time, 40 hours per week

  • Days of the Week: Monday - Friday, 8am - 5pm
