Academic Lab Coordinator - Mathematics and Statistics

The Academic Lab Coordinator plays a crucial role in supporting the Mathematics and Statistics Department by managing the lower division corequisite lab courses and ensuring that students receive the necessary support to succeed in these courses. The coordinator works closely with faculty instructors, tutors, and students to facilitate effective lab operations, coordinate lab materials, and assess the impact of the lab programs. The Academic Lab Coordinator report to the department chair.

Duties and Responsibilities
* Lab Program Management:
o Coordinate and implement the day-to-day activities of the lab programs to ensure efficiency and effectiveness.
o Collaborate with course instructors to design and implement lab exercises and activities that align with course curriculum.
o Evaluate the lab programs and relevant training, recommending, and implementing program improvements based on evaluation results.

* Tutoring Lab Services:
o Supervise and provide direction, training, orientation, and guidance to tutors.
o Prepare weekly and daily schedules for tutors.
o Provide input and documentation for tutor performance evaluations.
o Assist in the recruitment and selection of tutors and provide recommendations.

* Student Support:
o Audit courses as necessary and work collaboratively with course instructors to facilitate relevant support for students.
o Assess placement testing.
o Approve course repetitions.
o Provide information to students regarding the services and support provided by the corequisite lab courses.
o Serve as a liaison between the department and advisors regarding lower division courses.

* Administrative and Clerical Duties:
o Prepare, organize, and maintain records and files for placement testing, course repetition approvals, final grade reports.
o Assist in annual budget preparation for tutoring services by forecasting annual payroll and budget requirements.
o Monitor and report on budget variances and expenditures.
o Process, audit, and record tutor timecards.

* Additional Responsibilities:
o Coordinate needs of the faculty for Supplemental Instruction, Learning Assistants, and Teaching Assistant positions in courses.
o Attend meetings as required.
o Perform other related duties as assigned.

Required qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or equivalent software

Preferred qualifications

  • Master's degree
  • Experience working in collaboration with supervisors, co-workers, as well as working independently
  • Familiarity with mathematics and statistics curriculum at the lower division level
  • Experience working with diverse student populations
  • Familiarity with Workday and student information systems
  • Familiarity with an LMS such as Canvas or Blackboard

Salary for Announcement

Under Colorado law, MSU Denver is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role and should not offer a salary outside of the range posted in this job announcement. This range takes into account a variety of factors including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, analysis of internal equity, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience.

The salary range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $58,000 - $68,000.

This position is paid monthly and is eligible for MSU Denver benefits.

Schedule Information

  • Full-time, 40 hours per week
  • Exempt
  • Days of the Week: Monday - Friday, 8am - 5pm
  • Evenings and Weekend Work: Rarely
  • Schedule: Hybrid schedule with both in person, on campus work as well as the opportunity to work remotely up to 2 days per workweek
