Job DescriptionTexas State Technical College (TSTC) is seeking a visionary and results-driven leader to serve as the Senior Director of Military & Veteran Services. This role is pivotal in shaping and executing TSTC's statewide military and veteran enrollment strategies, ensuring that active-duty military, transitioning service members, and their dependents have a seamless pathway to career-focused education.

This strategic leadership role will oversee a team of military and veteran enrollment professionals across multiple TSTC campuses. You will be responsible for driving both recruitment and retention initiatives, leveraging innovation, partnerships, and data-driven strategies to expand TSTC's impact. Collaboration is key, as you will work closely with campus leadership, the Provost's Offices, Enrollment Management, and Marketing to create a compelling and unique student experience for military-affiliated learners.

TSTC is a recognized leader in technical education, with a funding model directly tied to student success. This is an opportunity to lead the development of innovative veteran-focused programs and initiatives that ensure long-term student engagement, retention, and workforce placement.

Salary Range: $99,627.85 - $119,553.42

The final salary offer will be determined based on the candidate's qualifications and experience. Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Leadership & Innovation in Military & Veteran Enrollment (30%)

  • Develop and execute statewide recruitment strategies for active-duty military, transitioning service members, and dependents.

  • Serve as the institutional leader and subject matter expert on military and veteran enrollment practices, ensuring alignment with TSTC's mission and institutional goals.

  • Partner with the Provost's Offices and Operations to design career pathways tailored to military and veteran students, ensuring program accessibility and success.

  • Collaborate on innovative approaches to engaging with military-affiliated students, including new outreach initiatives, digital recruitment strategies, and targeted engagement campaigns.

Building Partnerships & Expanding TSTC's Military Reach (25%)

  • Establish and maintain relationships with Department of Defense installations, Texas National Guard, veteran organizations, and community groups to generate enrollment leads.

  • Work with External Relations and Operations leadership to develop SkillBridge programs, internship pathways, and employment partnerships for military-affiliated students.

  • Engage with state and national military education organizations to ensure TSTC is at the forefront of military education best practices.

  • Represent TSTC at military recruitment fairs, base education offices, and transition programs, advocating for the value of technical education for service members.

Veteran Student Retention & Success Initiatives (20%)

  • Lead innovative student retention efforts, ensuring a best-in-class experience for military-affiliated students at TSTC.

  • Collaborate with campus leadership, Career Services, and Student Success teams to enhance student engagement, mentoring, and resource accessibility.

  • Develop initiatives tailored to the unique challenges veterans face, ensuring their transition to higher education is seamless and supportive.

  • Oversee data tracking and reporting on veteran retention rates, implementing continuous improvement initiatives to enhance outcomes.

Staff Leadership & Team Development (15%)

  • Provide direct supervision, coaching, and mentorship to a statewide team of Military & Veteran Services staff.

  • Foster a culture of innovation, accountability, and professional development, ensuring the team is equipped with the tools and training to excel in veteran recruitment and support.

  • Guide process standardization, compliance adherence, and efficiency improvements within the department.

  • Conduct regular engagement meetings, training sessions, and performance evaluations to drive team success.

Compliance, Reporting & Veteran Program Administration (10%)

  • Serve as the institutional expert on VA education benefits, Department of Defense Tuition Assistance, and other military-affiliated funding sources.

  • Oversee compliance, reporting, and audits related to military and veteran education benefits, ensuring adherence to federal, state, and institutional policies.

  • Coordinate with the Department of Veterans Affairs State Approving Agency for program approvals, updates, and renewals.

  • Develop best practices and process improvements that streamline the veteran certification and benefit utilization experience.

  • Regulatory Compliance & Data-Driven Decision Making: Skilled in VA compliance, military tuition assistance regulations, and leveraging data analytics for strategic planning.

  • Team Development & Leadership: Experience in coaching, mentoring, and developing staff in a multi-location environment.

  • Student-Centered Focus: Passionate about creating an exceptional, high-touch experience for military-affiliated students.

Education & Experience:

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, Organizational Leadership, Higher Education, or a related field.

  • Minimum of 5-7 years of military service (Senior Non-Commissioned Officer or Commissioned Officer experience preferred).

  • Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in military and veteran services, enrollment management, or Department of Defense education-related programs.

  • Proven ability to lead and manage cross-functional teams across multiple locations.

  • Comprehensive understanding of military culture, veteran transition challenges, and education benefit programs.

  • Expertise in VA education benefits, state tuition exemptions, and DoD tuition assistance programs.

Preferred:

  • Military rank of E-7 or above.

  • Experience in higher education administration with a focus on military student recruitment and retention.

  • Familiarity with CRM, student information systems, and digital enrollment tools.

  • Expertise in strategic project management and process improvement methodologies.
