Job Summary

Provides expert knowledge to clinical users through clinical processes, documentation needs, workflows, and clinical practice standards, when adapting software to meet their needs. Provides expertise and knowledge to clinicians to create or adapt written protocols. Prepares detailed specs encompassing clinical processes, information flow, risk and impact analysis. Manages professional staff to provide customer service, troubleshooting, and maintenance. Responsible for IT, contracts, budgetary management and human resources. Performs short and long term planning for the department.

Manages professional staff to apply advanced professional concepts and extensive industry knowledge to lead and / or work on medium to large projects of broad scope and complexity. Manages administrative and technical support in the development, installation, and ongoing maintenance of clinical information systems used throughout the institution. Maintains an outstanding customer service oriented relationship with each system owner. Maintains system/technical documentation, troubleshoots workstations and servers at an application level and facilitates open communication with IT / Clinical Systems and our departmental partners. Provides expert technical assistance in identifying and defining issues; evaluates and identifies methods and means for resolution as well as implements systems and procedures.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

The salary range for this position is $159,300 - $239,000 (Annual Rate).

Department Description

The Integrated Applications Group is within the Clinical Systems Department. The team consists of 5 groups including Technology Apps, Departmental Apps, RTLS Program, Application Security and Application Testing/QA. The Integrated Applications team is involved in the design, building, testing, and implementation of clinical application systems. The team provides support to clinical users through knowledge of clinical processes, documentation needs, workflows, and clinical practice standards, when adapting software to meet their needs. The team also works with clinicians to create or adapt written protocols, prepares detailed specs encompassing clinical processes, information flow, risk and impact analysis. They also provides customer service, troubleshooting, and maintenance.

Required Qualifications


  • Bachelor's degree in health care information technology, computer science, or related area, and / or equivalent combination of experience / training.
  • 10+ years professional experience in a technical setting, with information systems expertise including analytical and troubleshooting skills
  • 8+ years of experience with PC workstations, including desktop operating systems. Expertise in gathering and documenting detailed business requirements
  • 5+ years of related experience in a hospital environment.
  • Advanced knowledge in one or more of the following DBMS: Access, MSSQL, SQL
  • Advanced knowledge in one or more of the following operating systems: UNIX / AIX, Windows Server
  • Expert knowledge in planning, implementation, user support and training, maintenance, and system testing and evaluation
  • Applies advanced problem-resolution skills to highly complex issues, quickly diagnose problems, and develop, test, and implement appropriate and effective solutions in a timely manner.
  • Has advanced interpersonal communication skills to effectively train, support, and collaborate productively with clinical users and key stakeholders at all professional and technical levels.
  • Organizational and project management skills, and ability to lead a team, prioritize tasks, and see projects through from inception to completion on schedule.
  • Written and verbal communications skills, to convey highly-technical information and instructions to all levels of clinical users and staff in a specific, clear, and concise manner.
  • Advanced analytical skills and expertise in documentation and reporting, with the ability to apply metrics, plan and implement testing systems, collect and analyze performance data, and produce substantive reports and analyses for management use.
  • Advanced technical leader and information resource and to work collaboratively with key personnel and management, providing guidance and recommendations on systems, improvements, upgrades, and industry advances and trends.
  • Advanced knowledge in business analysis for the implementation of new RTLS applications and system maintenance or enhancements
  • Advanced knowledge in Windows Server Administration to perform functions such as: installation of applications software, troubleshooting using server OS utilities, configuring antivirus and security policies and system performance benchmarking.
  • Experience with Securitas MobileView RTLS applications: Asset Management, Environmental Monitoring, Staff Duress, Hugs Infant Protection, and Patient Flow.
  • Extensive experience with Aruba wireless network technology as it pertains to the AeroScout location services.
  • Experience with Securitas AeroScout location engine configuration, design, deployment, and support.
  • Experience with low-voltage electronic devices that integrate into the RTLS infrastructure, including Exciters, Gateways, and other configurable devices.

Preferred Qualifications


  • Advanced knowledge of basic structure of HL-7 standard and how information flows from one system/ application to another using HL-7 format.
  • Experience with major EMR solutions including Epic, GE, Phillips,
  • Experience with various RTLS tag vendor products and technology. Many will integrate with the Securitas MobileView platform.
