Job Summary

Under supervision of the Fleet Manager, the maintenance coordinator is part of a team that has the responsibility to assure the UCSF campus community, which includes faculty, staff, students and patients, is provided with safe, reliable and clean UCSF vehicles for transportation between various campus sites and transit centers. The employee will complete a daily vehicle safety inspection of 50+ UCSF campus shuttle bus vehicles, perform maintenance coordination for nearly 70 department vehicles which include 10 Supervisor/Parking vehicles and complete reports for submittal to supervisor. The employee will be responsible for a visual inspection of brake systems, tires, engine noises, fluid leakage, electrical problems and body damage to determine the need for unscheduled maintenance and repairs. The incumbent will schedule preventative maintenance with UCSF contracted vendors on a daily basis and will interact and support UCSF vanpool participants, UCSF shuttle drivers and department personnel with various vehicle maintenance issues providing customer service excellence at all times.

Covered under University series concept / job specification for classification 4722. Under general direction works on operational and/or procedural assignments that require the exercise of considerable discretion and independent judgment. Understands implications of work and makes recommendations for solutions. Determines methods and procedures on new assignments.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

The salary range for this position is $29.03 - $41.55 (Hourly Rate).

About Transportation Department: UCSF Transportation is a department within Campus Life Services. The department provides services across the UCSF enterprise (campus and UCSF Health), and its customers include employees, students, trainees, patients and visitors. More than 185 FTEs work in the department, including in parking services, transit services, transportation demand management services, and business operations. Transportation Department is charged with the responsibility of managing the campus' Transportation-based resources that include $150+ million dollars of the University's assets, which ranges from parking structures to fleet management for 100+ vehicles. Key operational management includes Shuttle Services, Fleet Services and Parking Operations of 7,600+ spaces at five major UCSF campus sites. The Transportation Demand Management (TDM) program includes 3,000+ members who utilize in-house vanpool programs, carpools, car share and bicycle facilities. The Department also administers the campus pre-tax transit and parking program, rideshare and the campuswide DMV vehicle registrations and Pull Notice Program.

Transportation Department Fleet includes BYD All-electric buses, standard gasoline-powered buses, all-electric vans, hybrid sedans and parking enforcement vehicles.

Required Qualifications


  • High School graduation and four years of related administrative experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Current California Class B Driver's License with Passenger Endorsement and valid Medical Examiner's Certificate and Air Brakes certification
  • Valid California Driver's License and an excellent driving record with no license restrictions other than for corrective lenses. (Applicants are required to present a current copy of their DMV record upon interview)
  • Experience in the operation of mid-size to large passenger vehicles and wheelchair mobility and security systems.
  • Able to efficiently operate both standard and automatic shift vehicles
  • Must possess specific knowledge and/or experience relating to automotive troubleshooting and vehicle maintenance
  • Demonstrated ability to work professionally and independently with UCSF contracted vendors and the campus community.
  • Ability to work under stressful and demanding situations while providing excellent customer service skills
  • Ability to work variable shifts, overtime, weekends and holidays

Preferred Qualifications


  • AA or Bachelor's Degree
  • Ability to maintain a high level of productivity, accuracy, completeness, and adherence to all UCSF and department policies, procedures and protocols at all times
  • University busy and/or shuttle driving experience
  • Computer skills involving use of Word, Excel and database applications
  • Prior experience with UCSF policies and practices
