Position Highlights University Facility Services at the University of Arizona is looking to fill an HVAC Refrigeration Technician II position. The successful candidate will install, maintain, repair, and overhaul HVAC and Refrigeration equipment. Working conditions include but are not limited to restricted movement, extreme temperatures, intense noise, hazardous materials, wet locations, hazardous working locations, and lifting and/or carrying heavy objects.

Note: This position requires a valid driver's license to drive University vehicles.

Duties & Responsibilities

Installs and replaces all types
of HVAC equipment according to prints, specifications, diagrams or other
instructions.
Performs complex repairs and
services on mechanical, HVAC, Chillers, Boilers, Walk-In's and Cold Room
under direct supervision of the Project Manager.
Tests malfunctioning systems and
components using electrical, mechanical, and digital controls.
Maintains cooling towers, water
treatment and tower distribution system.
Prepares estimates for repairs
and installation of HVAC equipment.
Performs planned maintenance,
regular servicing and repairs of heating and refrigeration equipment of
all types, sizes and temperature ranges.
Coordinates work schedules with
other shops and departments to keep inconvenience to a minimum.

Knowledge,
Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge with reading and
    understanding schematics.
  • Customer service skills and
    ability to work in a team setting.

Physical and Environmental Requirements:

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Working conditions
    include but are not limited to restricted movement, extreme temperatures,
    intense noise, hazardous materials, wet locations, hazardous working locations,
    and lifting and/or carrying heavy objects.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or high school diploma equivalency is required. In addition to the education and experience minimum qualifications, Apprenticeship program, technical training experience required.
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant
    experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • Ability to drive according to the University Fleet Safety Policy.
Preferred Qualifications

  • Repair and maintenance of walk-in/reach-in freezers and coolers experience.
  • Repair and maintenance of chillers and boilers experience.
  • Repair of ice machines experience.
  • Commercial, industrial and residential HVAC systems experience.
