Co-Op Hardware Engineering

Description

The engineering co-op student will work alongside, and in support of, R&D hardware and systems engineering teams. The engineering teams are a diverse, collaborative group working on the support and/or development of medical devices; the devices are used to automate in vitro diagnostics typically found in a microbiology lab.

Job Responsibilities:

  • The engineering co-op student will be supervised and mentored by the Director, Managers, and Sr. Engineer's in the engineering team of Systems Development.
  • Interaction with Project Leaders and other engineers will occur on a daily basis as needed in the co-op period.
  • The co-op will obtain basic knowledge related to medical instrumentation research, development, design, and testing.
  • Project Activities: This position will include creation and execution of verification tests, troubleshooting and evaluating instrument and system issues and design alternatives, and supporting engineering evaluations and feasibility efforts.
  • Design and Development Process: The co-op will be given the opportunity to acquire knowledge and understanding of the bioMerieux Design Control Process that addresses US and international regulatory requirements, as well as internal Quality Assurance.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Education: Electrical, Mechanical, Computer, Systems and Biomedical Engineering undergraduate students with a GPA of 3.0 or higher will be considered.
  • Sophomore year completed is preferred, but not required
  • General engineering knowledge including the use of standard engineering tools and laboratory test equipment,
  • General understanding of laboratory practices, general computer applications competencies (word processing, spreadsheet, internet data search, software programming, etc.),
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
