Job Purpose

  • To achieve HDMA business targets, it is critically important to determine whether a given part/system design is cost competitive and a reasonable value for the money.
  • The Cost Coordinator performs a key role by analysing and assembling data to construct materials to support the proposals or arguments being made by the Cost Planning Engineer. For example, 1) Review the accuracy of cost estimates generated or received. 2) Harvest the benchmarking database and pull relevant examples adjusting appropriately for conditions in order to enhance Honda's proposal. 3) Allocate Cost and Investment appropriately so changes from old to current cost condition can be explained. 4) Accurately upload part data to the Ahead system so the Category and Unit can be rolled up efficiently resulting in a highly credible cost report.

Key Accountabilities

  • Cost-Planning Coordination: Manage collaboration with all stakeholders (design-purchasing-supplier) to gain consensus on part-by-part cost estimates, track the cost maturation in real time, identify gaps and address them by organizing follow-up discussions. Regularly monitor that strategies are being applied consistently with the assumptions necessary to achieve the cost target. Collaborate with the Cost Planning Engineer to drive all cost activity to completion according to schedule.
  • Analysis: Compare Honda parts' Cost/Performance positioning vs. other OEM competitors. Where gaps exist, determine the characteristics driving the cost differences and identify opportunities for improvement. Envision the total story - why the gap exists, and what should we do about it. Persuade others while enhancing the argumentation so that a compelling case can be made.
  • R-themes support: For Themes that significantly impact cost or investment, perform benchmarking of the competitive field and study the functionality and cost effectiveness of similar solutions. Establish a business case for the proposal, ensure that the target is reasonable and achievable or raise a concern if the business merit does not exist. Consult with and inform the Cost Engineer in this task.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned or requested.
