Position Highlights |
The University of Arizona College of Medicine - Phoenix seeks a dynamic and visionary leader to serve as assistant dean for the Office of Assessment and Evaluation.
This position will report to the senior associate dean for Undergraduate Medical Education and serve as a member of the College of Medicine - Phoenix (COM-P) leadership team. The assistant dean of Assessment and Evaluation will have the responsibility to design, develop, implement and manage comprehensive academic data essential for student assessment and program evaluation aligned with COM-P outcomes and accreditation standards. This individual will collaborate with other leaders to streamline data collection and analysis to best communicate student performance, post-graduation outcomes and educational program outcomes. It is expected that the candidate will fulfill the responsibilities of a faculty member in an appropriate department, actively participate in teaching and/or scholarly work and qualify for an appointment at the rank of assistant, associate or full professor. For clinicians, part of their effort may be allocated to patient care and clinical teaching. Duties & Responsibilities |
Assessment
- Design, development, implementation,
management and continuous quality improvement of academic data in a comprehensive program across the entire medical school curriculum. - Work with course and education program
leaders to ensure a variety of robust student assessments that are aligned with COM-P outcomes and accreditation expectations. - Collaborate with information technology to
streamline assessment data collection and monitoring. - Analyze and report data in a manner that
effectively and clearly communicates student performance. - Provide input into the Medical Student
Performance Evaluation as needed. - Create and launch formative and summative
assessment methods in alignment with accreditation standards. - Prepare reports in support of
accreditation and quality improvement processes.
Program Evaluation
- Design, develop and execute a school-wide
program evaluation in collaboration with the vice dean UME and their leadership team. - Participate in standing curriculum
committee and other COM-P meetings, education retreats and other mission-based activities, as requested. - Ensure program evaluation activities and
outcomes are aligned with accreditation and curricular expectations. - Provide ad hoc support to faculty, staff
and trainees interested in program evaluation.
Scholarship
- Participate in educational scholarship,
including publications and presentations. - Lead and contribute to medical education
scholarship locally with faculty, staff and trainees. - Participate in national organizations
relevant to assessment and evaluation and advancement of medical education.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Have exceptional communication
skills. - Demonstrate knowledge of foundational understanding of educational theories and concepts related to learning sciences, with particular focus on assessment and evaluation.
- Experience in developing, using and improving learning analytics and data displays.
- Experience with the application of technological advancements (e.g., AI) on assessment and evaluation data.
- Ability to manage multiple educational projects simultaneously and work with different teams of educators and educational researchers.
- Ability to conduct and collaborate on qualitative and quantitative analyses.
- Ability to oversee and manage a team in terms of their work progress as well as their continuous professional development.

Minimum Qualifications |
- Hold a MD, DO, MD/PhD, DO/PhD,
MD/MS, PhD or its non-US equivalent. - Have at least three (3) years of
experience in higher education, ideally in undergraduate medical education or health professions context. - Demonstrate experience in
designing a program of assessment and assessment tools in higher education. - Be experienced in research
design and statistical analysis. - Be eligible, if an MD or DO,
for unrestricted medical licensure in the State of Arizona and eligible for medical staff membership at Banner - University Medical Center Phoenix.

Preferred Qualifications |
* Have experience in medical school accreditation and education quality improvement.
* Exhibit past experience in data capture, database design, data hygiene, data transfers and analyses. |
