Build the future of the AI Data Cloud. Join the Snowflake team.

Snowflake is looking for an experienced commercial transactions leader to serve on and help scale and mature our world-class commercial legal team as Snowflake continues to grow in size and expand our business. This role requires a collaborative and pragmatic team player who can cooperatively lead the commercial legal team for the Americas region, manage escalations from the team, and drive and manage multiple complex customer negotiations and commercial projects through to completion. Superb management, transactional, written and verbal communication skills are critical, particularly in conveying difficult feedback, issues and topics with various cross-functional leaders, executives and enterprise organizations. We are looking for someone with demonstrated leadership skills who can hit the ground running and make an immediate impact. This role will focus on leading Snowflake's Americas' commercial legal team who handles the majority of Snowflake's more strategic and complex outbound transactions, often with Fortune 500 companies. This is an in-person role based in our Menlo Park or Dublin (California) office. This is not a remote position.

WHAT YOU'll DO:
  • Partner closely with Sales teams primarily, and with departments across the organization that include Finance, Security, Product, Engineering and Support, on SaaS transactions that drive company revenue

  • Effectively lead, project-manage, structure, negotiate, and close very complex sales transactional agreements

  • Supervise and lead the commercial legal team for the Americas region in their negotiations and legal support of Sales

  • Handle escalations from other groups and resolve conflict peacefully and effectively

  • Serve as a trusted advisor on both legal and business-related issues to senior business leaders, including risk areas for Snowflake, the underlying Snowflake service, AI/ML, privacy and security

  • Manage risk and ensure business and compliance needs are accurately reflected in agreements

  • Work well in a fast-paced, dynamic work environment

  • Respond promptly to the demands of an active technology sales team and their management

  • Develop and deliver training on legal issues and contract processes

  • Support continuous improvements of forms, policies and processes to help streamline, simplify and automate our contracting processes

  • Keep abreast of the rapidly evolving legal landscape affecting our expanding portfolio of service features

A successful candidate will be able to forge strong relationships with Snowflake customers, as well internal clients and cross-functional groups within Snowflake, including sales, professional services and alliances. The right candidate will be flexible, fun, hard-working and have the desire to be impactful, as a key driver to Snowflake's continued growth and success.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR:
  • At least 15 years of relevant commercial legal experience directly supporting a sales organization, and at least 8 years of strong management experience, preferably in-house with a successful, high-growth enterprise SaaS company

  • Law degree from an accredited U.S. law school and license to practice law in the U.S.

  • Outstanding analytical, drafting, negotiation, collaboration, written and communication skills

  • Strong background with SaaS-centric issues (e.g., revenue recognition, data privacy, security, tax, intellectual property, and artificial intelligence), professional services and various go-to-market programs

  • Ability to view issues holistically and operate as a "business owner," not just as a lawyer, and takes an expansive view of any review

  • Good judgment in issue-spotting and determining which areas require high involvement and which can be delegated with more independence

  • Ability to break complex problems into component parts, identifying which components require input from other teams or more senior leaders

  • Ability to manage and lead team resources creatively and efficiently, and handle escalations from the business collaboratively and cooperatively, to achieve reasonable outcomes

  • Exceptional and pragmatic organizational, project management, problem-solving and prioritization skills

  • Flexibility and eagerness to be readily available and work hard with a positive attitude in a fast-paced environment and meet tight deadlines (especially at quarter-end)

  • The ability to think and execute both strategically and tactically, without over-optimizing for outcomes that benefit or are easier for oneself or one's team

  • Highly effective interpersonal skills with the ability to work with a wide variety of people at all levels inside and outside the organization

  • Service-oriented, responsive, professional and strong integrity

  • Experience working with highly regulated cloud customers (e.g., FinServ, healthcare, etc.) and a working knowledge of emerging developments in the legal landscape for artificial intelligence
