Job Description

One of the primary goals of the Sosland-Missouri Endowed Chair in Trauma Services within the Departments of Surgery and Biomedical Sciences is to increase the understanding of the mechanisms of Trauma. Based upon this understanding effective measures to prevent and treat traumatic events will be devised. Violent traumatic events often derive from social, psychological, economic and health conditions. These conditions are the focus of this position. The candidate will conduct research to quantitate and characterize the interpersonal violence in the rural America starting with the state of Missouri. Based on the findings of the Research Assistant interventions to reduce the violence in the rural communities will be devised.

The duties and responsibilities of this temporary position for up to 6 months, 40 hours a week, include but are not limited to:

  • Determining the homicide and crime rates of rural regions in the United States
  • Characterizing the regions with respect to socioeconomic and psychological make of these regions
  • Characterizing the physical and psychological state of the family in these regions
  • Within the family determining if the needs of children at each stage of development are being met.
  • Devise interventions that address the root causes of interpersonal violence.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

  • BS with major in Human Development and Family Sciences
  • Medical School graduate
  • Experience in doing social science research
  • Experience in doing health related research
