Duties and Responsibilities |
The
Benefits Specialist is responsible for assisting with the management and administration of all Loyola's employee benefits programs, including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short- and long-term disability, and retirement plans.
Benefit Enrollment and Administration:
- Processing new hire enrollments, managing open enrollment periods, updating benefit information for employee status changes, and ensuring accurate deductions are taken from paychecks.
- Ensures the accuracy of all benefits enrollments in the HRIS system to provide vendors with accurate eligibility and census information.
- Performs quality checks of benefits-related data.
Employee Education and Communication:
- Providing clear information about benefits plans through presentations, webinars, and written materials, answering employee questions about coverage, eligibility and other general inquiries. Interprets benefit plan documents in response employee inquiries.
Vendor Management and Claims Assistance:
- Assisting employees with resolving benefit claims issues, including contacting insurance providers to resolve issues.
- Monitor and review vendor performance for plan.
Leave Management:
- Processes leave-of-absence requests and disability paperwork: medical, personal, disability and FMLA.
- Effectively interprets FMLA and ADA implications as they relate to leaves of absences/disabilities.
Compliance Management:
- Staying updated on federal and state regulations related to employee benefits, ensuring compliance with laws like FMLA, ADA, HIPAA and ERISA.
Cost Analysis and Plan Evaluation:
- Analyzing benefit utilization data to recommend changes and adjustments to benefit plans.
Other Duties:
- Provides necessary reports for allocation/billing charges and reconciles benefits billing statements. Coordinate COBRA process.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- May need travel to other campus locations.

Minimum Education and/or Work Experience |
- Associate's degree in HR or related field, but experience and/or other training/certification may be substituted for the education.
- Two years' experience in HR and/or benefits administration.

Qualifications |
Required Education and Experience:
- Associate's degree in HR or related field, but experience and/or other training/certification may be substituted for the education.
- Two years' experience in HR and/or benefits administration.
- Prior customer service experience.
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
Preferred Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in human resources or related field of study.
SHRM, HRCI or CEBS certification credential.
