Department of Student Affair, UMKC School Medicine - St Joseph, Missouri Campus

Job Description

The Student Affairs department at the School of Medicine is seeking an experienced Senior Academic Advisor (Senior Education Team Coordinator) for our St. Joseph rural medical school campus. The selected candidate will provide a high level of initiative, organization, detail, and student service while providing high-quality work.

Duties include:

  • Advise approximately 80 students in an intense, year-round, medical school curriculum
  • Provide both academic and personal counseling to students and connect students with resources when appropriate
  • Work in partnership with Student Affairs staff and leadership and faculty, Councils and other departments within the School of Medicine regarding student concerns and curriculum
  • Have high-level knowledge and understanding of School of Medicine and UMKC policy and be able to effectively explain that policy to students and faculty
  • Monitor course progression, enrollment accuracy, and other data-related tasks
  • Coordinate class meetings and yearly events and trainings for students within the School
  • Provide senior leadership in the department on behalf of the Associate and Assistant Deans of Student Affairs
  • Other duties as assigned, both scheduled and ad-hoc, as pertinent to department-wide Student Affairs tasks and goals
Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 2 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Higher Education, Counseling, Education, or related field preferred. Three years of experience working within higher education administration is preferred. Ability to keyboard proficiently and comfortability in working within multiple data systems is necessary. Must be organized, detail-oriented, reliable, student-centered, and approachable.

Anticipated Hiring Range

$50,000 - $56,000 annually, commensurate with experience, education, and internal equity.
