The Senior Research Associate plays a crucial role in maintaining the health and well-being of laboratory animals. The position requires a blend of technical skills and compassionate care to ensure that all animals receive optimal treatment and living conditions. The technician will work closely with the Animal Care Facility Manager and in vivo pharmacology team to support various scientific studies.

What will you do?



  • Animal Care: Provide weekend/holiday care for laboratory animals, including feeding, watering, and monitoring their health.
  • Health Monitoring: Observe and document the condition of animals, identifying any signs of illness or distress, and report findings to the facility manager.
  • Record Keeping: Maintain accurate and detailed records of animal care, treatments, and research data.
  • Emergency Response: Respond promptly to animal health emergencies, following established protocols.
  • Environment Maintenance: Clean and disinfect animal cages, equipment, and workspaces to maintain a sterile environment.
  • Technical Tasks: Proficient in routine technical procedures such as PO, IV, SQ dosing and blood collection in mice and rats.
  • Training: Provide training and support to new staff on proper animal care techniques and procedures.
  • Compliance: Ensure all activities comply with institutional and federal regulations regarding animal care and use.



What minimum qualifications do we require?



  • High school diploma or equivalent; an associate or bachelor's degree in animal science, biology, or a related field is preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years experience in lab animal husbandry is required.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting 50lbs and carrying equipment.
  • Ability to work weekdays, holidays, and some weekend shifts as needed to ensure continuous animal care.



What additional qualifications will make you a stronger candidate?



  • AALAS certification at the ALAT level is highly recommended.
  • Proficiency in basic dosing techniques, familiarity with laboratory equipment, ability to perform technical tasks accurately.
  • Strong observational skills to identify changes in animal behavior or health.
  • A genuine concern for animal welfare and a commitment to providing high-quality care.
  • Understanding of institutional and federal guidelines on animal care and use. Ability to perform ex vivo assays
  • Regularly involves standing, walking, bending, and lifting. The technician must be able to comfortably work with rodents.
  • Strong interpersonal, collaborative, and verbal and written communication skills required
