Business Intelligence Intern - Summer 2025

Position Summary:

The Business Intelligence Intern will work closely with the rest of the Business Intelligence team to support the Credit Union's data requests, data storytelling, experimentation and other projects related to the success of the organization. This internship offers hands-on experience in a corporate financial institution, working within a team, while serving all areas of the organization. Interns will gain practical knowledge of how a company operates in the context of its data needs and contribute knowledge and expertise gained through their own education and experience.

Work Location: Hybrid; Headquarters campus in East Lansing, MI
Work Schedule:
Full-Time up to 40 hours/week or Part-Time up to 29 hours/week; 8:30AM - 5:00PM Monday-Friday
Paid Hourly Internship:
$16.00+/hour
Duration:
Summer Semester beginning May 14th, with potential to continue during the school year (part time hours available)

An offer of employment with MSU Federal Credit Union and affiliates is contingent upon the agreed work arrangement (onsite/hybrid/remote) and work location. MSU Federal Credit Union may or may not be able to accommodate temporary or permanent changes to work arrangements or allow employment outside the city and/or state of residency in which the new hire resides at the time of offered employment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:



  • Review new requests that come into the ticketing system and identify the best sources for those requests, where the level of complexity will increase with greater understanding of best practices and the data landscape.
  • Conduct research on data modeling techniques and technology used for application within the organization and use results of research to innovate and make strategic recommendations.
  • Take initiative to experiment and innovate on new ideas while meeting the objectives of all assigned tasks.
  • Create and maintain department documentation and standards for daily work.
  • Serve as a resource for data questions and issues that may arise from various areas throughout the Credit Union.
  • Assist the team in communicating the status and results of requests via written reports and oral presentations on a timely basis to stakeholders.
  • Contribute to the development of organizational procedures, training materials, and other resources.
  • Maintain productive and team-oriented relationships with employees and management through individual contacts, in person connections, and participation in group meetings.
  • Identify opportunities for gaining efficiency using technology and communicate those opportunities to the team.
  • Participate in the Credit Union's internship programs, networking, and experience
  • Understand the Credit Union's policies and procedures to ensure compliance and accountability for managing operational risks. Adhere to established internal controls and procedures to safeguard assets, prevent fraud, and maintain the integrity of credit union operations.


Job Requirements:



  • This position requires active enrollment in a college or university, pursuing a degree in computer science, information technology, business analytics, or related analytic field (math, statistics, etc.)
  • This position requires a working understanding of programming languages such as SQL, DAX and Python. Work with Power BI and Snowflake a plus.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:



  • May be required to remain in a stationary position for an extended period.
  • Ability to operate standard office technology, equipment, and tools, which may include many hours of computer and phone usage.
  • Occasionally needs to move about inside of an office area.
  • Exposure to potentially hazardous condition, i.e. robbery. Receives detailed instructions and procedures to be followed to minimize the exposure.
  • This position can work in hybrid or fully onsite working arrangements.
