Position Summary: The Physical Security Desk Officer is responsible for ensuring the security and safety of the credit union's employees, visitors, and facilities across multiple locations. This position monitors security systems, controls access to buildings, responds to alarms and incidents, and provides direction and assistance as needed. The Desk Officer plays a critical role in maintaining a secure environment by enforcing security policies and responding to security-related concerns in a professional and timely manner. Work Arrangement - This position is an onsite role, responsible for working at our East Lansing, MI headquarters. Schedule - 20-25 Hours per week working a consistent schedule within the hours of Mon-Thur 7am-5:30pm, Fri 7am-6pm, and Saturday 9am-1pm. Schedule will include occasional Saturday hours and can be discussed further during the interview process. An offer of employment with MSU Federal Credit Union and affiliates is contingent upon the agreed work arrangement (onsite/hybrid/remote) and work location. MSU Federal Credit Union may or may not be able to accommodate temporary or permanent changes to work arrangements or allow employment outside the city and/or state of residency in which the new hire resides at the time of offered employment. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Physical Security Desk Officer I:
- Provides superior service to members, employees, and guests creating a welcoming environment and personalized interactions while paying attention to behaviors, recognizable features, and potentially suspicious notes through situational awareness.
- Monitors security cameras, alarm systems, and access control systems to detect and respond to threats, unauthorized access, or security incidents.
- Responds to alarms, security concerns, and requests for assistance, taking appropriate action, including coordination with law enforcement or emergency responders as needed.
- Maintains and enforces access control procedures, including verifying visitor credentials, issuing badges, and regulating building entry, including denying access and escorting those off premises when appropriate.
- Provides a first level of emergency response by providing clear direction to employees and communicating directly with all necessary parties for organizational awareness and reaction.
- Conducts daily security rounds and inspections to ensure compliance with security policies, identify potential risks, and communicate vulnerabilities or maintenance concerns.
- Assists employees, guests, and visitors with security procedures and building access.
- Documents and maintains detailed records of security incidents, visitor access, and suspicious activity.
- Ensures adherence to organizational security policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
- Understand the Credit Union's policies and procedures to ensure compliance and accountability for managing operational risks. Adhere to established internal controls and procedures to safeguard assets, prevent fraud, and maintain the integrity of credit union operations.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Physical Security Desk Officer II:
- Assists with the training of current and new desk employees.
- Assists with investigations of security concerns and workplace incidents, providing detailed reports and recommendations to management.
- Initiates investigations into incidents to clearly and efficiently escalate as appropriate.
- Sr. Physical Security Desk Officer:
- Leads investigations of security concerns and workplace incidents, reviewing reports, directing peers through the process, and recommendations to management.
- Acts as the Credit Union's incident command in emergency response situations in the absence of management.
- Leads incident debriefings when involved as a key contributor to the investigation or action.
- Oversees and reviews peer documentation and reporting, ensuring all security logs, incident reports, and compliance records are accurate and up to date.
- Deploys to branches and other locations as needed to provide security presence and support.
- Trains, mentors, and provides support to other desk officers serving as a resource for escalated critical decisions and emergency situations. Communicating to management as needed.
Job Requirements:
- Physical Security Desk Officer I:
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification required or ability to obtain
- Physical Security Desk Officer II:
- Completion of one or more formalized trainings in security/first responder with certification of completion (i.e. Physical Security Certification, Fire Safety Training, Emergency Response Training); -or 2 years of experience in security/first responder rolls in lieu
- Sr. Physical Security Desk Officer:
- Security Guard Licenses or Bachelors Degree in Criminal Justice required; -or 3 years of experience in security roles in lieu

Physical Demands and Work Environment:
- May be required to remain in a stationary position for an extended period.
- Ability to operate standard office technology, equipment, and tools, which may include many hours of computer and phone usage.
- Frequently needs to move about inside or outside of an office area.
- Exposure to potentially hazardous condition, i.e. robbery, active violence. Receives detailed instructions and procedures to be followed to minimize the exposure.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds; Frequently moves equipment or materials for transport between areas of buildings.
- This position requires onsite presence at the employee's assigned location for all scheduled shifts.
