Job Summary:

The Department of Plant and Agroecosystem Science is recruiting for a Scientist I who will be responsible for developing, proposing, conducting, and publishing research aimed at understanding how to make agriculture more beneficial for all. The ideal candidate must have the ability to engage and communicate with a range of community partners in conversations about making agricultural change.


Responsibilities:
Identifies research problems, designs research methodologies, performs research, and helps to prepare the results for presentation to professional organizations or for scholarly publications to help advance research.

  • 20% Assists with the identification of research problems and the development of research methodologies and procedures
  • 20% Collects and analyzes research data, conducts experiments and interviews, and documents results according to established policies and procedures under general supervision and limited responsibility
  • 20% Attends and assists with the facilitation of scholarly events and presentations in support of continued professional development and the dissemination of research information
  • 20% Writes or assists in developing grant applications and proposals to secure research funding
  • 20% Serves as a main point of contact and liaison with internal and external stakeholders providing information and representing the interests of a specialized research area

Education:

Required
Terminal Degree
PhD in Agroecology, Sociology, Ecology, Natural Resources, Environmental Science, Agronomy, Soil Science or related field


Qualifications:

Required:
- Experience using sociological literature to determine the current state of science
- Experience composing and publishing manuscripts

Preferred:
- Knowledge of annual and perennial cropping systems typical to Wisconsin
- Experience networking and building relationships in agricultural communities throughout Wisconsin


Work Type:

Full or Part Time: 50% - 100%

It is anticipated this position requires work be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location.

Work hours are expected to fluctuate between 20-40 hours per week. Occasional night and weekend hours may be required.


Appointment Type, Duration:

Terminal, 3 month appointment.
This position has the possibility to be extended or converted to an ongoing appointment based on need and/or funding


Salary:

Minimum $70,000 ANNUAL (12 months)
Depending on Qualifications
The anticipated salary range for this position is $70,000 - $74,000. However, final salary will depend on experience and qualifications. Employees in this position can expect to receive benefits such as generous vacation, holidays, and paid time off; competitive insurances and savings accounts; retirement benefits

- Evaluation/Probationary period may be required
- The successful applicant will be responsible for ensuring eligibility for employment in the United States by the start date of the appointment
