Summary

The City of Garland is seeking a dynamic and creative Social Media Strategist to manage and execute its social media marketing. This individual will be responsible for fostering a positive online presence for the City, effectively communicating with and engaging the Garland community and beyond.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. (Other duties or special projects may be assigned).

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive social media strategy to enhance brand visibility and grow followers, impressions and engagements across various social media platforms

  • Produce compelling and visually appealing content, including photos, videos and graphics

  • Monitor comments, messages and mentions across all social media platforms, responding in a timely and professional manner, when needed

  • Define, track and report on key performance metrics to assess the effectiveness of social media efforts and make data-driven recommendations for improvement

  • Ensure consistent and cohesive messaging that reflects the City's values and enhances its online reputation

  • Work closely with internal and external stakeholders to gather content, promote initiatives and support communication efforts

  • Document guidelines for City social media use; train staff as needed Keep up-to-date with the latest social media trends, tools and best practices

Minimum Qualifications

  • Associate's degree

  • 3 years of experience in social media marketing

Or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, public relations, journalism, digital media or a related field

  • 3-5 years of experience in social media marketing

  • Fluency in Spanish, both spoken and written

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Passion for social media and proficiency with major social media platforms and social media management tools

  • Experience with graphic design software and video editing tools

  • Experience in analytics and reporting

  • Demonstrated ability to infuse creativity, humor where appropriate, and originality into multimedia content that resonates with diverse audiences

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality when dealing with sensitive information

  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and the capacity to mobilize internal and external stakeholders

  • Available for non-standard hours when necessary

Licenses and Certifications

  • Valid Class C Texas driver's license
