We are excited to support and grow our Counseling MA program and CCAS through these Assistant Teaching Professor positions.

There are 15 members on our faculty. Faculty actively collaborate with diverse community, school, mental health, and medical partners across the campus, region, and nation. Please visit our website for a full description of our Department, programs, faculty, and resources.

Job Description

We seek colleagues with a demonstrated record of teaching excellence and the potential to contribute to the mentoring and service missions of our Department, School, and University. Successful candidates will serve as core faculty in the Counseling MA program, which includes participation in program-related activities and functioning, student mentoring, and student evaluation. Opportunities to teach or mentor students in the undergraduate and doctoral programs may be available.

Position #1 (Open emphasis area): We are seeking candidates from any area of counseling practice and teaching specialization, but strong preference will be given to those who can teach across our core course offerings within the MA program, including, but not limited to: Career Development; Skills in Counseling and Psychotherapy; Assessment Methods in Counseling; Lifespan Development; Psychopathology; and Practicum.

Position #2 (School Counseling): We are seeking candidates who can teach, advise, and mentor students within our School Counseling emphasis area of the Counseling MA program. Candidates will teach core offerings in the program and within the emphasis area, including but not limited to Foundations of School Counseling, Organization of School Counseling Programs, Practicum, and Internship.

For these positions, the successful candidates will have a strong commitment to quality graduate teaching; teach courses in our Counseling MA program; earn excellent teaching evaluations; and engage in mentoring and service activities that support our mission. We also seek colleagues who are interested in teaching in different modalities: in-person, blended, online synchronous, and online asynchronous.

Within our Department, the typical teaching assignment for Assistant Teaching Professors is four classes each fall and spring semester. There is an opportunity for the candidate for Position #1 to serve as a Faculty Fellow at CCAS, which would come with one course release per semester. The Faculty Fellow at CCAS will provide clinical and administrative support to our Clinic Director (e.g., practicum student onboarding, working with practicum class supervisors, addressing issues in the clinic when they arise).

Position #2 also includes a reduced teaching load per semester (i.e., 3 courses) for service as the coordinator of the School Counseling emphasis area. The School Counseling coordinator will recruit and advise school counseling students, ensure program alignment with state certification requirements, work with local school districts for field placement of school counseling students, and other duties as assigned. This position may include, based upon need of the program, a summer administrative stipend to complete duties outlined above that fall outside the 9-month appointment.

Outside the classroom and clinic, candidates will participate in Departmental, School, and University service (as appropriate). Examples of these service activities include the Counseling MA program committee, faculty advisor for student organizations, the School's academic standards committee, the University's curriculum committee, etc.
