The Surgical Physician Assistant (PA) residency Fall of 2025 will provide a dynamic and hands on training experience on the surgical floors, ICU, clinics and operating rooms. Over the course of the year, residents can expect to have time divided between patient management (~75%) and direct surgical responsibilities (~25%). Residents will receive initial didactic, clinical and laboratory education throughout the year PA residents will rotate through selected surgical experiences. The core rotations will include GI, Thoracic, Vascular, Plastics, and Cardiac Surgery. A one-month rotation through the surgical ICU will be provided as well as an additional elective surgical rotation at a JHH affiliated hospital. When on rotations, PA Residents will be working within a team to perform history and physical, make preliminary diagnosis for review by physician and issue diagnostic orders. You will learn additional skills: phlebotomy, IV placement, interpret EKG, wound care, removal of surgical drains. Advanced procedures including central line, arterial line and chest tube placement, thoracentesis, bronchoscopies under supervision. More details regarding the JHH PA Surgical Residency

Shifts: 8-hour day shifts; Saturdays (working 6 out of 7 days)

Qualifications:




  • Graduated or Currently enrolled and expected graduation by August 2025 from an ARC-PA approved Physician Assistance Program
  • Active Maryland PA License
  • Board certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) or (certification eligible for new Graduate PA)
  • BLS Health Care Provider CPR certification required: AHA or Red Cross accepted
  • No PA work experience required
  • Provider Enrollment, Chain and Ownership Systems (PECOS) enrollment required




You must be fully credentialled by The Johns Hopkins Hospital medical board with staff privileges to start working.
