Job Summary

The Scope Program Manager will provide guidance, direction, and leadership to Perioperative Services, Central Processing staff, and other areas of UCDH using and processing scopes to deliver quality service to support exceptional patient outcomes and customer satisfaction. These areas include, but are not limited to: GI Lab, Interventional Pulmonology, Emergency Department, Inpatient Units, Ambulatory Clinics.

Incumbent demonstrates expertise of high-level disinfection knowledge and application of American Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI) standards and Society Of Gastroenterology nurses and Associates (SGNA). The incumbent is responsible for monitoring the day-to-day activity related to high-level disinfection and acting as the liaison for current high-level disinfection practices across the enterprise.

This is a highly skilled, clinical specialist role responsible for all aspects of scope processing across the organization. It requires high visibility, collaborating with numerous stakeholders to ensure compliance, disseminate education, identify opportunities, execute improvements. Leads and facilitates working groups to improve scope practices and clinical quality outcomes.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) from Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA) OR Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician (CSPDT) from The Certification Board of Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD)
  • Certification in Endoscope Reprocessing (CER) from Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA) OR Certified Endoscope Reprocessor (CFER) from The Certification Board of Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD)
  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing or other relevant healthcare profession, or a combination of comparable clinical education and / or experience.
  • 2 years of scope coordination experience OR 5 years of scope management/supervisory experience
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills to prioritize workload and meet deadlines, develop, and carry out project assignments in an efficient and timely manner, under pressure of deadlines and frequent interruptions, and meet conflicting deadlines.
  • Write summaries, correspondence, and other communications. Must be able to use email, read and create charts, compose error-free, grammatically readable documents and written instructions, policies, procedures
  • Solid oral and interpersonal skills, tact and diplomacy.
  • Use analytical skills to research, interpret and implement data.
  • Use problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
  • Analyze and interpret policies and processes.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, Internet and web-based applications and databases.
  • Ability and fine motor dexterity to operating equipment, computers, keyboard and mouse
  • Judgement skills to be able to make independent clinical decisions in patient care matters
  • Thorough knowledge of AAMI guidelines
  • Must be able to work with adaptability, flexibility & maintain composure during stressful and/or adverse conditions.
  • Interpersonal skills to interact with a variety of internal and external stakeholders, vendors, customers, etc.

Department Overview

The Central Processing department is one unit within Perioperative Services that delivers patient care through provision and management of capital, supplies, sterilization, processing of instrumentation and technological support. It provides planning and coordinating of surgical care with the medical and clinical staff to effectively manage surgical and procedural patient needs in the operating rooms and procedural areas.

The department also services the entire hospital and clinic enterprise for any equipment and sterile processing needs.
