Job Summary

The Executive Director of Predictive AI is responsible for leading, managing, and directing the Predictive AI Platform Suite. This role will define the strategic vision, drive innovation and oversee the development, and growth of our suite of the Predictive AI platform. The Executive Director will collaborate with senior leaders and cross-functional teams to align the platform's capabilities with organizational priorities, optimize resource allocation, and foster adoption of AI-powered tools. This position requires a visionary leadership, strategic mindset, technical expertise, and the ability to build and scale AI solutions while ensuring compliance with industry regulations and ethical AI best practices.

Key Responsibilities

  • Set strategic vision and direction for the Predictive AI Suite, ensuring alignment with enterprise priorities to maximize business impact through AI-powered capabilities.

  • Define, and be accountable for executing, a strategic roadmap for the Predictive Platform portfolio, establishing and ensuring adherence to business product and technology policies and standards while collaborating with senior leadership and key stakeholders.

  • Evaluate and prioritize platform initiatives, making necessary trade-offs to optimize outcomes.

  • Define and oversee the full lifecycle strategy for the platform suite from identifying and integrating AI solutions to sunsetting legacy offerings, optimizing for overall suite performance, with evolving business priorities.

  • Serve as the AI executive champion for the Predictive AI / Agentic AI Platform Suite, articulating its strategic value to senior stakeholders, influencing enterprise decision-making, and fostering a culture of AI innovation and accountability.

  • Partner with Analytical Product Suite Stewards and Business Product Owners to infuse Predictive AI/Agentic AI capabilities into business and analytic products where and when applicable.

  • Partner with DDA functional teams to develop a cross-functional product roadmap for predictive AI.

  • Partner with the Informatics (IX) team to develop a scalable, secure, and compliant ML/AI platform ecosystem - from experimentation to production deployment.

  • Lead the development of cutting-edge methodologies in areas such as predictive and prescriptive modeling, time-series and causal inference, graph ML and network science, natural language processing and LLM fine-tuning.

  • Lead development of reusable AI/ML components and enterprise models across CMG domains such as HCP/patient engagement, forecasting, field force optimization, and real-world data analytics.

  • Oversee architecture and technical strategy for end-to-end ML workflows, including data pipelines, feature stores, model training/validation/deployment, and performance monitoring.

  • Partner with IX to ensure adoption of best-in-class MLOps practices to scale reproducible, automated, and compliant data science, ML, and AI development across use cases.

  • Define and track success metrics (e.g., adoption, performance, ROI) for data science and machine learning products and platforms.

  • Establish standard practices among data product teams to shape individual product strategy aligned to business needs.

  • Ensure adherence to ethical AI practices and governance standards across the AI platform suite, aligning AI capabilities with responsible AI frameworks, compliance requirements, and business objectives.

  • Ensure compliance with laws, regulations, and policies, upholding the integrity of Genentech's activities and product stewardship.

  • Partner with internal experts in Legal, Compliance, and Medical Affairs, to mitigate business risks and uphold Genentech's policies and ethical standards; hold teams accountable for adherence to these standards.

Minimum Candidate Qualifications & Experience

  • Master degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Engineering, Statistics, or related field required; Ph.D. preferred.

  • 12+ years of experience, with 5+ years in data science, AI/ML within healthcare, life sciences, or highly regulated industries.

  • Strong leadership and team management abilities, with experience in coaching, developing, and inspiring talent.

  • Deep expertise in data science, machine learning, statistical modeling, and AI platform technologies.

  • Proven track record of driving AI/ML innovation from concept to scaled deployment, especially in complex matrixed organizations.

  • Extensive experience with modern ML frameworks (e.g., PyTorch, TensorFlow), MLOps tools, and cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, GCP, Azure).

  • Ability to own and manage the predictive AI and agentic AI platform including visioning, roadmap creation, execution, and impact measurement.

  • Expertise in driving platform improvements based on measurement and optimization insights.

  • Fluency / comfort with data systems, technology platforms, and integrations to inform strategic product decisions.

  • Strong leadership and team management abilities, with experience in coaching, developing, and inspiring talent (direct or indirect).

  • Excellent communication and leadership abilities to drive change, influence stakeholders, and evangelize the product vision.

  • Experience working in an agile setting or bringing agile best-practice mentorship to the team.

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of South San Francisco, CA is $227,500 - $422,500 USD Annual. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance. This position also qualifies for the benefits detailed at the link provided below.
