As an Occupational Therapist or Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant, you will work collaboratively to carry out patient care and operational duties for the department, as indicated, and will do so with a positive attitude. Provides occupational therapy services to outreach sites as indicated. You will participate as an active member of the health care team by performing assigned tasks, designated activities, and functions for which you have received training in accordance with the policies and procedures of Monument Health to meet the needs of the patient.

Job Description

Essential Functions:
  • Uses appropriate critical thinking and judgment in the provision of care. Performs all aspects of treatment based on accepted national, departmental and evidence-based standards. Provides treatment that meets or exceeds departmental outcome standards.
  • Documents in a timely, accurate manner which supports medical necessity in accordance with department standards.
  • Submits required paperwork for billing, accurate charges and authorizations. Demonstrates appropriate use of time management according to departmental productivity standards.
  • Demonstrates initiative in individual professional development. Completes all education required by the Monument Health system and for licensure/certification in a timely manner. Actively promotes the profession within Monument Health and to the outside community.
  • Incorporates and educates patient, family and caregivers in treatment, goal setting and discharge planning as appropriate.
  • Follows the established OT care plan and collaborates with primary OTR on any care plan changes or problems.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Additional Requirements

Required:
Education - Associates degree or equivalent OR graduate of accredited program for Occupational Therapist Assistant
Certification - Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) - National Board for Certification of Occupational Therapists (NBCOT)

Preferred:

Education - Bachelors: Occupational Therapy
Certification - Occupational Therapist (OT) - South Dakota Board of Medical and Osteopathic Examiners

Physical Requirements: Very Heavy work - exerting over 25 pounds of force constantly (67-100% of the time), and/or more than 50 pounds frequently (34-66% of the time), and/or more than 100 pounds of force occasionally (up to 33% of the time), and/or more than 100 pounds of force seldomly to move objects. Possible exposure to blood, bodily fluids, or tissues. Requires the ability to work designated shift lengths (including 8 and 12 hours), which may include night shifts or occasional irregular hours.
