The Aerospace Corporation is hiring a Data Engineering Specialist for an On-Site (Colorado Springs, CO) opportunity in the Data Platforms and Architectures Department.

Information Systems and Cyber Division (ISCD)staff couple the latest in information system technologies - such as elastic compute clouds, containerization, microservices, real-time operating systems, and visualization frameworks - with expertise in cyber security, software architecture, software engineering, data science, artificial intelligence (AI), process improvement, and software development to deliver responsive, resilient, high-performance software intensive systems to our Intelligence Community, DoD, and civilian customers.

Work Model

This is a full-time position based in Colorado Springs, CO, which requires being onsite a minimum of 4 days per week.

What You'll Be Doing

Data engineering is central to current and future information systems and is crucial for informing mission-critical decisions. Customers rely on our cutting-edge capabilities to enable data analysis and reporting as their data volume grows exponentially.

In this role you'll be:

  • Leading and participating in the design, development, implementation, and maintenance of resilient and efficient data pipelines and platforms enabling data analysis and reporting directly impacting mission areas, increasing velocity and innovation for Aerospace and its customers
  • Supporting the national, security, and commercial space enterprise through the identification, prototyping, assessment, and implementation of cutting-edge data engineering and data architecture strategies and solutions
  • Collaborating with technical subject matter experts and interdisciplinary teams including the National Security Space, United States Space Force, and other Department of Defense customers to conceive, design, and develop enterprise data analysis pipelines and applications
  • Learning by doing, acquiring expertise in emerging technologies to further personal and organizational breadth of knowledge in an academic environment where self-enrichment, training, and mentorship is fundamental
  • Architecting data infrastructure, analyzing requirements and advising customers on the most advantageous data formats and systems to ensure their data is readily available for utilization
  • Proposing innovative research and development projects, leading both research and proof-of-concept development as the principal investigator
  • Duties, responsibilities, and activities may change, or new ones may be assigned as needed
What You Need to be Successful

Minimum Requirements for the Computer Science/Data Engineering {Engineering Specialist/Senior Engineering Specialist - Data Engineering} role:

  • Bachelor's degree in STEM or a related technical field
  • 6+ years of professional experience in data engineering, architecting, administration, and related roles
  • Advanced knowledge of one or more programming languages (i.e., Python, Java, JavaScript/TypeScript, C/C++, etc.)
  • Experience designing, developing, and implementing modern, modular enterprise data architectures, platforms, and strategies (i.e. data lake, data fabric, data mesh, data pipelines, data engineering, data management, data governance, etc.)
  • Advanced proficiency working with databases and data management systems (i.e. relational, non-relational, graph, timeseries, etc.)
  • Experience with cloud-native application development and deployment systems, microservice architectures and design patterns, virtual environments, containerized platforms, SaaS applications, infrastructure as code, and automated deployments (e.g. Kubernetes, Docker, Argo).
  • Back-end and middleware development experience, working with data structures and algorithms
  • Experience developing in Unix-like environments and using source/version control (i.e. Git)
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance issued by the US government. U.S. citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance.
How You Can Stand Out

It would be impressive if you have one or more of these qualifications:

  • Advanced degree (MS or PhD) in Computer Science or Computer Engineering, or a related STEM field
  • Experience scoping and leading full stack software development and delivery lifecycle
  • Experience with cloud technologies, platforms, and services (i.e. AWS, Azure, Platform One, etc.)
  • Experience designing and developing multi-cloud or hybrid-cloud solutions
  • Familiarity with data semantics, knowledge engineering, knowledge graphs, or ontologies
  • Experience with data security and data governance methodologies
  • Knowledge of data virtualization and data access techniques
  • Familiarity with processing distributed or streaming data
  • Familiarity with AI/ML applications for smart data management
  • Experience implementing unit, integration, or functional software testing
  • Active US Government security clearance

We offer a competitive compensation package where you'll be rewarded based on your performance and recognized for the value you bring to our business. The grade-based pay range for this job is listed below. Individual salaries within that range are determined through a wide variety of factors including but not limited to education, experience, knowledge and skills.
