Responsibilities

The Barn Manager oversees every aspect of horse care as well as management of barn personnel. This position should appreciate the unique abilities of therapeutic horses or be willing to learn, and requires extensive equine knowledge, sound judgement, leadership, adaptability, and a positive attitude in the workplace.

Essential Duties:

  • Oversees and develops barn staff, including, but not limited to, scheduling, training, and ensuring staff are efficient and task focused.
  • Manages the health of the horses, including, but not limited to, scheduling vet, farrier, and dental visits.
  • Maintains meticulous records of the equine herd and their health records.
  • Assists with day-to-day tasks of the barn, including, but not limited to, feeding, watering, mucking stalls/paddocks, and maintaining a professional environment.
  • Maintains equipment, supplies, and feed inventory.
  • Works directly with the Manager of Equine Therapy and Equine Specialist to create and implement training schedules for the therapy herd.
  • Dispenses and applies prescribed medication and treatments.
  • Assists in any medical equine emergency.
  • Maintains and encourages a professional and organized workplace.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree in a related field of study preferred.
  • Minimum of five (5) years' work experience with equines in a professional setting required.
  • Valid Driver's license required.
