The Senior Ground Support Engineer delivers on our Purpose by serving as a Project Manager for the preventative maintenance and technical improvement of aircraft ground support equipment resulting in safe, cost-effective, and dependable ground operations. This role oversees the development and communication of technical recommendations to GSE Leadership and supports mechanics in troubleshooting issues that may arise. The Senior Ground Support Engineer is a skilled communicator and strategic thinker, who looks forward to making a meaningful impact on the future of Southwest Airlines.

Responsibilities
- Manage all aspects of complex engineering projects, and initiatives, managing to a successful completion within defined time frames
- Lead research that tests or analyzes the feasibility, design, operation, or performance of equipment, components, or systems
- Confer with engineers or other personnel to implement operating procedures, resolve system malfunctions, or provide technical information/updates
- Design detailed technical reports including, but not limited to, schematic diagrams, drawings, and instructions, technical service bulletins, and procedure manuals
- Develop or test models of alternate designs or processing methods to assess feasibility, sustainability, operating condition effects, potential new applications, or necessity of modification
- Disseminate knowledge of equipment modifications by developing and facilitating on-site training to ensure the proper execution of new procedures
- Investigate equipment failures or difficulties to diagnose faulty operation and recommend remedial actions
- Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, schematics, or computer-generated reports
- Recommend equipment improvements by providing subject matter expertise and initiating creative solutions while working under safety-driven time constraints to increase efficiency and reliability
- May perform other job duties as directed by Employee's Leaders
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles involved in production of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models
- Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology including applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to the design and production of various goods and services
- Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance
- Skilled in Microsoft Office Suite, IBM Notes, Microsoft Exchange Server, AutoCAD, SolidWorks, etc.
- Ability to identify complex problems and review related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions
- Ability to use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems through root cause analysis
- Ability to teach others how to do something
- Ability to apply general rules to specific problems to produce answers that make sense
- Ability to tell or recognize when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong
- Ability to quickly make sense of, combine, and organize information into meaningful patterns
Education
- Required: High School Diploma or GED
Experience
- Advanced level experience, expansive and far-reaching knowledge in:
- Engineering science and technology including applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to the design and production of various goods and services
- Tools and machining practices, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance
- Reading, understanding and creating electrical schematics, service bulletins and general instructions.
- Root cause analysis and implementation
- Interface with manufacturers and other workgroups
Physical Abilities
- Ability to perform work duties from [limited space work station/desk/office area] for extended periods of time
- Ability to communicate and interact with others in the English language to meet the demands of the job
- Ability to use a computer and other office productivity tools with sufficient speed and accuracy to meet the demands of the job
- Ability to sit for long periods of time
- Ability to write for long periods of time
- Ability to lift and/or carry up to 10 lbs.

- Must maintain a well-groomed appearance per Company appearance standards as described in established guidelines
- Must be a U.S. citizen or have authorization to work in the United States as defined by the Immigration Reform Act of 1986
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Must be able to comply with Company attendance standards as described in established guidelines
Pay & Benefits: Competitive market salary from $105,550 per year to $117,300 per year* depending on qualifications and experience.
