The Office of Information Technology (OIT) is responsible for supporting the IT needs of UC Irvine faculty, students, and staff. Our mission is to provide information technology leadership, services, and innovative solutions to promote the research, education, and community service goals of the University.

The Cloud Infrastructure team within OIT is accountable for the development, implementation, operation, and adoption of AWS cloud services for the UCI campus.


Your Role on the Team

We're looking for an experienced professional to lead our Cloud Infrastructure team. Under the direction of the Director, AI, Cloud & Client Solutions, the Manager, OIT Cloud Infrastructure will spearhead the execution of UC Irvine's cloud migration strategy from our on-premises data center to AWS, establish cloud best practices in AWS and Azure and help lead the transformation of the organization's cloud operating model to DevOps. Receives assignments in the form of objectives with goals and the process by which to meet goals. Provides direction to staff according to established policies and management guidance. Administers policies that directly affect subordinate staff. Recommends changes to department policies and practices. Identifies risks and responds accordingly. Provides priority setting and workflow analysis. Responsible for defining and implementing cloud best practices, automation, cost optimization and management, and security postures in collaboration with groups across the organization, campus, and vendor partners.

The expected pay range for this recruitment is $104,900 - $175,400 (Annual).

Required:

  • In-depth knowledge of various areas of IT. Broad knowledge of the IT environment. Has solid knowledge of information systems function.
  • Knowledge necessary to design, set up, operate and correct malfunctions involving cloud-based infrastructure and automation.
  • Advanced knowledge of cloud security tools, best practices and policies including demonstrated experience securing AWS/Azure environments.
  • Has solid interpersonal and management skills. Demonstrated skill in managing technical staff.
  • Has solid knowledge of related principles and concepts to identify and provide solutions to more complex and diverse cloud and infrastructure issues. Solid knowledge of the applications programming development function. Solid ability to gather, organize, and analyze data in the completion of assignments.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills. Requires solid ability to communicate highly technical information in a clear and concise manner to both technical and nontechnical personnel.
  • Expert knowledge in cloud architecture, cloud migration strategy, DevOps, and cloud operational excellence across AWS and Azure environments.
  • Knowledge of cloud governance, cost management, and operational best practices.
  • Skills and abilities in managing enterprise cloud infrastructure, hybrid environments, and cloud networking solutions.
  • Has effective project management skill sets.

  • 5-10 years of experience in cloud architecture, cloud migration strategy, DevOps, and AWS and Azure environments.

Preferred:

  • Advanced knowledge of secure software development. Advanced knowledge of business and process analysis functions.
  • AWS or Azure cloud foundational, associate, or professional level certifications.

Special Conditions:

  • May be required to work after hours, as needed.
