Overview

HJF is seeking a Research Physician to conduct comprehensive research, consultation, review and analysis on a variety of medical issues. Provide scientific and technical support services to the identified program. Responsible for initiating and carrying out research programs in collaboration with research teams.

This position will be in support of Battlefield Shock and Organ Support with the Department of Surgery.

The Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine (HJF) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing military medicine. We serve military, medical, academic and government clients by administering, managing and supporting preeminent scientific programs that benefit members of the armed forces and civilians alike. Since its founding in 1983, HJF has served as a vital link between the military medical community and its federal and private partners. HJF's support and administrative capabilities allow military medical researchers and clinicians to maintain their scientific focus and accomplish their research goals.


Responsibilities

  • Assist in designing, directing, and executing research protocols in conjunction with Resident Physicians and Scientists.
  • Investigate the feasibility of applying scientific principles and theories to potential inventions and products.
  • Direct and participate in the submission of research protocols to the Institutional Animal Care & Use Committee (IACUC), Institutional Review Board (IRB) and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) as necessary.
  • Performs specialized laboratory research utilizing experimental protocols and specialized procedures. Collects and handles samples and keeps detailed records of experiments.
  • Analyzes clinical data. Prepares program status reports to the institution, regulatory agencies, and sponsors of the clinical research programs scientific papers for presentation at local and national meetings and for publication in medical and scientific periodicals.
  • May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor. This may include attendance of and participation in required training for role.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • M.D.
  • Minimum of 0-2 years experience required

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Thorough knowledge of clinical medicine and the procedures and techniques necessary for performing research tasks
  • Knowledge of medical science and the development of clinical research programs
  • Knowledge of appropriate scientific area; ability to analyze and interpret data
  • Ability to communicate effectively
  • Ability to make effective presentations and publish
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal skills
  • The ability to obtain and/or maintain a T1 Public Trust.

Physical Capabilities

  • Lifting: Requires lifting materials up to 25 lbs.

Licenses and Certifications

  • Licensure to practice medicine within the continental United States; Board certified or board eligible for certification in the specialty associated with the clinical research program.

Work Environment

  • This position will take place primarily in a laboratory setting.

Compensation

  • The annual salary range for this position is $64,200-$70,000. Actual salary will be determined based on experience, education, etc.
