The Assistant Engineer II position is with the Operations Compliance Team in Water Quality Section, located in La Verne, California. This team ensures the satisfaction of Metropolitan's customers, member agencies, sub-agencies, and drinking water consumers in relation to water quality. The Assistant Engineer will serve as a Water Quality liaison for the Water Treatment Section and Conveyance and Distribution Section within the Metropolitan Water District. This role will support the operation of water treatment plants and distribution systems, ensuring continued compliance with current and future drinking water regulations. The Assistant Engineer will review and summarize water treatment plant operations data, conduct full-scale evaluations and process optimization studies, and provide recommendations to the Water Treatment Section and Conveyance and Distribution Section. This role requires a strong understanding of water treatment processes, regulatory requirements, and the ability to analyze data to optimize operations and ensure compliance. The selected individual will also collect water quality samples as needed at Metropolitan's water treatment plants and in the distribution system and will support emergency responses as needed, after proper training. Schedule: 44/36, Monday through Friday with every other Friday off. Monday through Thursday 9 hours per day, 8 hours per day every other Friday. Start times are no earlier than 6 am and end times are no later than 6 pm. Hybrid: Metropolitan's current practice in this position is a hybrid work schedule. This typically includes two days a week in person and the other days remote. This is subject to change dependent on organizational needs. In addition, a telework policy is scheduled for negotiations and once completed and implemented, will provide final direction on the hybrid schedule. Relevant Experience is defined as: assisting in working with water and/or wastewater treatment processes, OR distribution system water quality monitoring and/or operations, OR experience in water/wastewater regulatory compliance.
