JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The Institute for the Study of Adult Literacy (ISAL) is seeking instructors to create clear, accessible, and user-friendly materials that support the Career and Family Pathways program in both Centre and Lycoming Counties. These roles will involve a variety of projects, including:

  • Developing an ESL-friendly guide to State College, PA to help learners navigate the community.
  • Writing an ESL student-driven cookbook featuring international recipes and personal stories, while helping ESL students develop digital literacy skills.
  • Analyzing the program's adult education curriculum for alignment with the ELP standards and identifying or creating supplemental materials as needed.
  • Organizing and documenting an inventory of adult education books used for the program.
  • Assisting in the digitization of student records, ensuring clear documentation and accessibility.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Research and write community guides, instructional resources, and culturally themed content for ESL learners.
  • Ensure materials are clear, engaging, and aligned with adult education best practices, including the College and Career Readiness Standards (CCRS) and English Language Proficiency (ELP) Standards.
  • Organize and catalog adult education books, creating an inventory system for easy reference and access.
  • Assist in digitizing student records, maintaining accuracy, clarity, and confidentiality.
  • Collaborate with ISAL staff, educators, and ESL learners to gather input, refine content, and ensure accuracy.
  • Format materials for print and digital distribution, ensuring accessibility for a diverse audience.

Qualifications:

  • Experience in writing, editing, curriculum development, or instructional design, preferably in ESL or adult education.
  • Strong organizational skills, with experience in inventory management or data organization being a plus.
  • Familiarity with digitization of records and basic data management practices.
  • Ability to write in a clear, accessible style suitable for ESL learners.
  • Strong research and communication skills to gather relevant information and create engaging content.

Project Timeline & Compensation:

  • Duration: Short-term contract with flexible deadlines.
  • Compensation: $25-$29 per hour.
  • Work Format: Remote, in-person, and/or hybrid.
