Sonic Inspector

We are currently seeking a Sonic Inspector in the Bar Inspection department at our Monroe, NC facility.As a sonic operator, you will play a valuable role in helping ensure our products and materials meet customer expectations.

As a sonic operator, you will be responsible for processing material in the sonic tank and through theimmersiontactic to perform contact sonic. A successful candidate should demonstrate an eagerness to learn, showing initiative, commitment to teamwork, attention to detail, integrity, and honesty.

This is a night shift position from 6:00 pm to 6:00 am, working on a rotating 2-2-3 schedule. You will work 2 days, have 2 days off, work 3 days; then 2 days off, work 2 days, then have 3 days off. Training will take place on a modified team shift working Monday through Thursday (and every other Friday) from 6pm to 6am.

Additional Responsibilities:



  • Perform tasks to assist in set-up and operating equipment
  • Follow prescribed safety regulations
  • Maintain accurate, complete, and legible logs, records, and charts
  • Operate heavy machinery such as forklifts and cranes
  • Train for 3 months (or 400 hours) and receive 40 hours of classroom training and receive hands on instruction
  • Learn to operate all instruments and test systems
  • Learn to read technical instructions and mill instructions
  • Written and practical examinations will be administrated after 3 months training
  • Upon receiving passing results, will reach level I after completing 400 hours of training


Level I:



  • Continue training in the above tasks
  • Must be able to make specific calibrations of all test systems according to procedures
  • Must be able to verify that equipment is calibrated
  • Will be able to operate the equipment under the direct supervision of a Level II
  • Will receive 40 hours of classroom training to perform all techniques necessary to become a Level II inspector including immersion testing (nuclear and non-nuclear) and contact testing (nuclear and non-nuclear)
  • After 12 months (or 1600 hours), no more than 14 months experience since the beginning of training, and 40 hours of classroom training, a written practical examination will be administered
  • Failure to pass the examination on the third attempt will disqualify that person to be Level II and will require assignment to another job if available and qualified


Level II:



  • Will be able to operate all equipment and systems, in all techniques (immersion, contact, longitudinal, shear wave, nuclear and non-nuclear).
  • Will be able to accept or reject indications, perform calibrations, and work to all procedures as required
  • Should be able to organize and report inspection results in a thorough manner
  • Must be thoroughly familiar with the scope and limitations of the techniques for which the individual is qualified and must be able to apply those techniques as required
  • Requalification will be every 3 years by written and practical examination as required by T.I. QC-20 addenda 1 and 2
  • Failure to requalify on 3rd attempt will result in the same actions as above.
  • An employee must work in the position for a minimum of 2 years to be eligible for job posting

Preferred Qualifications



  • One (1) year of manufacturing experience is preferred


Skills



  • Basic math skills, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division in all units of measure including whole numbers, fractions, and decimals
  • Basic computer skills
  • Ability to read tape measure and micrometer
  • Ability to read and understand instructions
  • Ability to utilize common hand tools
  • Ability to lift objects weighing up to fifty (50) pounds and work in hot conditions
  • Required to pass In-dept vision screening
  • Pass Sonic Assessment
