Job Summary

We are seeking a communications professional to establish a strategic communications function, including processes and tools that will support the achievement of our organizational objectives. The Director of Internal Communications is a strategic leader responsible for developing and executing a comprehensive internal communication strategy across Colas USA, a matrixed organization. As the senior-most communications professional, this role will guide and align business unit communicators, ensuring a cohesive narrative that advances the company's vision, values, and business objectives.

This leader is both a strategist and a hands-on practitioner, capable of navigating complexity, fostering cross-functional collaboration, and delivering impactful communications that engage and inspire employees.

Main Responsibilities

  • Create and implement an internal communications strategy that aligns with the goals of Colas USA, fostering a cohesive organizational culture.
  • Provide senior leadership with expert insights on effective messaging, change management, and employee engagement practices.
  • Lead the development and dissemination of a consistent voice and messaging framework across all Colas USA business units to ensure clarity and coherence.
  • Manage the Communications department for Colas USA, guiding team efforts both directly and indirectly to enhance internal communication initiatives.
  • Develop impactful messaging that aligns with both global and USA strategies, ensuring adherence to comprehensive communication plans throughout the Colas Group.
  • Establish communication strategies and standards, including processes, formats, and content guidelines, to support effective information sharing.
  • Research and implement effective communication methods to share vital information with both office and field employees across Colas USA.
  • Develop and track key performance indicators (KPIs) to evaluate the success of internal communication efforts and drive continuous improvement.
  • Work closely with Human Resources, Information Systems Support, and other departments to communicate organizational changes, new initiatives, and essential updates.
  • Develop style guides and brand voice guidelines for public relations, marketing, advertising, and other vital departments, ensuring alignment with the Group's communication direction.
  • Partner with teams across Colas USA to proactively create content and media opportunities aimed at informing and educating the workforce.
  • Work with key stakeholders to produce engaging internal communications materials, including newsletters, social media updates, bulletins, website content, announcements, and presentations.
  • Strengthen brand recognition initiatives, ensuring employees across subsidiaries understand their roles within the broader Colas USA Family of Companies and the Global Colas Group.

Education

  • A bachelor's degree in communications, marketing, or a related field is preferred, but not mandatory
  • A valid driver's license and the ability to maintain a clean driving record are required

Skills

  • A minimum of 7 years of experience in communications or a related field is required
  • At least 3 years of experience in communications function management is preferred
  • Strategic thinker utilizing an understanding business goals, change management expertise and overall employee experience knowledge
  • Proven ability to build relationships and collaborate effectively with all organizational levels, including senior management
  • Digital fluency - mastery around multi-channel communications, as well as AI/automation, multimedia (video, graphics)
  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to make decisions amid ambiguity
  • Excellent organizational skills and consistent work ethic
  • Experience creating targeted content that generates measurable return on investment (ROI)
  • Willingness to travel up to 25% of the time
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
