Idaho National Laboratory is hiring a Chemist to work in our Radiochemistry and Nuclear Measurement department. Our team works a 9x80 schedule located out of our Research Education Center (REC) in Idaho Falls with every other Friday off. You will focus on nuclear forensics, novel separations and analysis from complex mixtures derived from environmental samples, fission mixtures and irradiated materials applied to nonproliferation research. Extreme cleanliness are essential to success. You are expected to be a strong asset to our interdisciplinary R&D team and work both alone and as a team member. You will report to the manager for Radiochemistry and Nuclear Measurement department. Responsibilities Include:
- Conduct research in areas of specialization (e.g., nuclear nonproliferation, radioanalytical chemistry, noble gas production, electrode-electrolyte interfacial interaction, etc.). Work with chemicals in a safe manner, following work control processes.
- Plan and execute programmatic research.
- Work with other scientists and chemists in the development of experimental designs and execution of experiments.
- Develop new methods and instrumentation that advances science in area(s) of specialty.
- Prepare research papers/reports and technical research proposals. Publish in both classified and unclassified peer reviewed journals.
- Write and submit research proposals that solicit new research and development activities or provide critical services.
- Provide programmatic and technical leadership to various groups in area(s) of specialty. * Assist management in the identification of growth areas and development of department roadmaps that in turn focus strategic investments in facilities, equipment, and most important human capital.
- May lead a dynamic team consisting of junior staff, postdoctoral researchers, and other technical staff.
- May serve as project lead or lead technical roles in multiple tasks or cross-cutting projects to support INL, the Department of Energy (DOE), other government agencies and industry.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- Level 2: Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry or analytical chemistry and at least 2 years of relevant experience, a Masters degree in chemistry or analytical chemistry from an accredited institution, or a Ph.D. in chemistry or analytical chemistry and 0 years experience.
- Level 3: Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry or analytical chemistry and at least 5 years of relevant experience, a Masters degree in chemistry, analytical chemistry, biochemistry, biology, or related field from an accredited institution and at least 2 years of relevant experience, or a Ph.D. in chemistry or analytical chemistry and 2 years of experience.
- Proficient in authoring scientific manuscripts for journal publications and presenting research findings at national and international conferences and meetings.
- Demonstrate exceptional skills in communicating scientific results, supported by a strong publication record.
- This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy "Q" clearance, which requires US Citizenship.
Job Information:
- The pay range for this position is: Level 2 ($77,628 - $159,228) / Level 3 ($93,204 - $191,076). At Idaho National Laboratory compensation decisions are determined using factors such as education, relevant experience, and other credentials.
- TDP: This is a testing designated position; you will be required to submit to a pre-employment drug screen and periodic drug testing throughout the term of your employment.
- Multi-Level: This is a multi-level posting and you will be placed at the appropriate level dependent on depth and breadth of proven experience and skills.
