Primary Purpose

The Director, Annual Giving & Engagement, reporting to the Vice President & Chief Advancement Officer, has responsibility for the execution and management of the Parkland Health Foundation's annual giving and engagement program including oversight of annual giving, leadership giving, grateful patient programming, donor engagement and events with the goal of growing the foundation's donor base and positioning the Parkland Health Foundation as a philanthropy of choice.

Minimum Specifications

Education

  • Must have a bachelor's degree.

Experience

  • Must have a minimum of ten (10) years of experience in fundraising with at least five (5) years of experience in annual giving or donor engagement/stewardship.
  • Experience recruiting, hiring, training, and mentoring team members in a hybrid complex work environment preferred.
  • Experience working with Raiser's Edge or other comparable donor management system preferred.
  • Experience in healthcare philanthropy preferred.

Equivalent Education and/or Experience

  • May have an equivalent combination of education and experience in lieu of specific education and/or experience as stated above.

Skills or Special Abilities

  • Demonstrated ability to accomplish results through strong leadership and team management, and a proven track record in meeting personal goals. Excellent written, verbal, analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain solid and effective working relationships with individuals/groups at all levels in the community and internally, including executive hospital leadership.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of annual giving, mid-level giving, donor engagement, and donor acquisition.
  • Excellent interpersonal and influential skills, including the ability to effectively coach staff, build relationships, and leverage resources within the function to advance business strategies.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead with strong persuasion and strategic thinking skills. and the ability to work on projects independently, without direct authority.
  • Demonstrated ability to work well under pressure and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel).
  • Knowledge of Raiser's Edge or comparable CRM system.
  • Knowledge of basic budget management.
  • Ability to handle confidential materials with appropriate discretion.

Responsibilities

  1. 1Implements and grows a strategic annual giving program, including an omni channel donor acquisition and direct response program, leadership annual giving, grateful patient programming and employee giving. Collaborates with a cross-functional team to continually refine and grow the program.
  2. Oversees management of a best-in-class stewardship program, providing opportunities for donors to see and understand the impact of their giving and to be recognized for their support.
  3. Oversees engagement and stewardship events ensuring that all in person events and experiences that donors have are of the highest caliber and create opportunities for deeper engagement with the foundation.
  4. Provide leadership to the annual giving and engagement team, providing the resources, guidance, and strategy support necessary to achieve established Foundation goals. Ensure staff carries out all required elements of moves management as well as proper documentation within the Foundation's CRM.
  5. Establish and monitor annual giving and engagement goals, priorities, and metrics to meet growth expectations and evaluate progress toward goals on a regular basis by measuring results against projections.
  6. Manage a personal portfolio of major gift prospects and donors with the capacity to make a significant philanthropic investment.
  7. Leverages system strategies to increase community engagement and to build a strong supporter community.
  8. Develops, regularly evaluates and ensures execution of plans and budgets for engagement and communications annually.

Job Accountabilities

  1. Identifies and analyzes the design of jobs, work processes, workflows, etc. for the area and implements appropriate changes to improve effectiveness, productivity, and efficiency that support the overall goals of the department and Parkland.
  2. Stays abreast of the latest developments, advancements, and trends in the field by attending seminars/workshops, reading professional journals, actively participating in professional organizations, and/or maintaining certification or licensure. Integrates knowledge gained into current work practices.
  3. Maintains knowledge of applicable rules, regulations, policies, laws, and guidelines that impact the area. Develops effective internal controls designed to promote adherence with applicable laws, accreditation agency requirements, and federal, state, and private health plans. Seeks advice and guidance as needed to ensure proper understanding.
  4. Develops and monitors annual budgets that ensure the department has the necessary funds to carry out the goals and objectives that have been established for the department.
  5. Develops, implements, monitors, and revises annual goals and objectives for the department that support the missions and objectives of Parkland.
  6. Selects, trains, schedules, motivates, supervises, and evaluates employees making recommendations for disciplinary actions up to and including termination, to ensure maximum utilization of individual and group capabilities. Ensures that assigned employees receive opportunities to further their knowledge.
