Position Description The Estimator at Six Side Supply is responsible for accurately assessing the costs associated with fabricating and supplying miscellaneous metals for commercial construction projects. This role requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work closely with project managers, vendors, and subcontractors to provide accurate estimates and bid proposals. Essential Functions:
- Review and interpret project specifications, architectural and structural drawings to perform detailed quantity take-offs
- Develop comprehensive and accurate cost estimates for miscellaneous metals, including stairs, railings, bollards, platforms, ornamental metal features, etc.
- Evaluate subcontractor and supplier pricing to develop competitive bid proposals
- Identify potential risks and cost-saving opportunities related to fabrication, material procurement, and installation
- Maintain a database of material costs, subcontractor pricing, and historical project estimates
- Assist in bid preparation, including compiling clarifications, inclusions, and exclusions
- Coordinate with vendors and other fabricators to obtain accurate pricing and lead times
- Work with project managers to ensure estimates align with project schedules and deadlines
- Prepare and submit proposals for general contractors and clients
Qualifications Required:
- Degree in Construction Management or equivalent work experience
- 2-5 years of experience in estimating within the construction industry
Preferred:
- Experience estimating miscellaneous metals, structural steel, or other specialty construction trades
- Understanding of fabrication processes for steel, aluminum, and other metals
- Experience working with commercial construction general contractors
- Knowledge of AISC standards and welding processes
Skills:
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and project management software
- Understanding of fabrication processes for steel, aluminum, and other metals
- Knowledge of AISC standards and welding processes

- Self-starter and motivated with minimal supervision
Office and Travel
- Primary work location will be at the Six Side Supply office, White Bear Lake
- Periodic site visits required to assess project conditions and confirm scope
- Some travel to vendor or fabrication facilities may be necessary
Responsibilities and Tasks Estimating and Bidding:
- Perform detailed take-offs for miscellaneous metals scopes
- Develop bid cards, set up bid packages, and manage subcontractor solicitations
- Ensure estimates include labor, materials, fabrication, finishes, and delivery
- Analyze and compare subcontractor/vendor quotes
- Assist in contract negotiations and value engineering efforts
Business Development & Client Relations:
- Engage with general contractors and project stakeholders to understand project needs
- Assist in RFQ and RFP responses to secure new opportunities
- Maintain relationships with suppliers, fabricators, and subcontractors
- Attend industry events, pre-bid meetings, and project interviews as required
Project Support:
- Work closely with project managers to transition estimates into awarded contracts
- Support preconstruction efforts, including coordination with engineers and fabricators
- Assist in scheduling and procurement planning for awarded projects
- Track and analyze project costs compared to estimates for continuous improvement
Other Duties as assigned
- Attend all company safety meetings and weekly work plan meetings.
- Attend any training - personal and/or professional development - that is relevant to the position, including human resources management
- Actively participate in company-sponsored events
- Participate in Lean events and support of the McGough Way
- Participate as an active member of the Six Side Supply Team. Contribute to shared goals and collaborate with colleagues on achievement of priorities.
- Collaborate with internal teams, contractors and other stakeholders to align efforts. Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

In addition, employee must be able to move around prospective or current project sites. This includes climbing ladders, walking on uneven surfaces, walking long distances, and climbing stairs. Pay Transparency In alignment with our commitment to pay transparency, the base salary range for this position is 81,000 to 101,000, excluding fringe benefits or potential bonuses. If you join McGough, your final base salary will be determined by several factors, including geography, location, skills, education, and experience.
