Staff Position Summary

The Dallas College Facilities Management Department supports the facility needs for Dallas College while providing responsible stewardship and efficient operation of the College's physical assets. The Facilities Management Department is responsible for approximately 5,500,000 sq. ft. of physical space and over 1400 acres of land, located across multiple locations in Dallas County. The Landscaping Technician III position supports that effort through helping manage the college landscaping and grounds and staff.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

* Advanced knowledge of landscaping practices, including plant care, soil management, pest control, and seasonal grounds maintenance.
* Understanding of irrigation systems, including installation, inspection, repair, and water efficiency techniques.
* Familiarity with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS), with preference for TMA experience.
* Knowledge of workplace safety standards and protocols for landscaping operations.
* Proficiency in operating and maintaining landscaping equipment, such as mowers, blowers, trimmers, tractors, and skid steers.
* Strong organizational and project management skills to handle multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
* Effective verbal and written communication skills for collaborating with team members, supervisors, and other stakeholders.
* Ability to train, mentor, and lead a team, ensuring high performance and adherence to standards.
* Diagnose and address complex landscaping problems, including pest infestations, irrigation challenges, and plant health issues.
* Adapt to changing priorities while maintaining focus on quality and safety.
* Document maintenance and work schedules accurately using a CMMS.
* Perform physically demanding tasks outdoors in a variety of weather conditions.

Physical Demands:

This position requires a variety of physical activities, including sitting, standing, walking, bending over, stooping, twisting, talking, hearing, climbing ladders, using stairs, reaching overhead, crouching, kneeling, or crawling. Tasks may involve pushing or pulling 10-50 lbs., lifting 10-80 lbs., and carrying 10-50 lbs. It requires repetitive use of arms and legs, driving, balancing, and manual dexterity for fine manipulation or grasping. Work may be conducted in adverse weather conditions.

Minimum Requirements:

* High school diploma or GED equivalent.
* Licensed Pesticide Applicator and Licensed Irrigation Technician credentials or ability to obtain both within six (6) months of hire.
* Minimum of 5 years of progressive landscaping experience; supervisory experience preferred.
* Valid Texas driver's license required.
* Bilingual or multilingual preferred.

Key Responsibilities

* Oversee the upkeep of college grounds, including mowing, edging, pruning, fertilizing, planting, and mulching.
* Diagnose and treat issues related to plant health, soil, and pests.
* Plan, assign, and review work tasks for landscaping staff, ensuring quality and efficiency.
* Provide training and mentorship to enhance team skills and safety compliance.
* Monitor and evaluate staff performance, providing feedback and implementing corrective actions when needed.
* Prepare staff schedules and adjust as needed to meet project demands and seasonal requirements.
* Install, inspect, maintain, and repair irrigation systems to optimize water efficiency.
* Monitor irrigation schedules based on weather and environmental conditions.
* Document all work tasks, inventory usage, and maintenance schedules using a CMMS, with preference for experience using TMA.
* Ensure accurate record-keeping and timely updates to systems.
* Lead installation projects and landscape renovations following college standards.
* Collaborate with stakeholders to address special landscaping needs for events and campus activities.
* Enforce safety policies and procedures, ensuring proper handling of tools, equipment, and chemicals.
* Conduct safety briefings and address risks identified during operations.
* Maintain adequate levels of tools, supplies, and materials, and manage procurement to prevent shortages.
* Actively participate in annual training, workshops, and certifications required by Dallas College.
* Completes required Dallas College Professional Development training hours per academic year.
