System Manager - IT Engineering

Overview

Responsibilities

• The Systems Manager will oversee IT architecture, development, vendor management, and collaboration with engineering teams to develop specifications and requirements that adhere to security, architectural, and infrastructure policies. In cases where existing procedures are inadequate or non-existent, they will collaborate with the relevant architecture and application teams to create or modify procedures as necessary to meet business needs.
• The Systems Manager will be responsible for designing, developing, implementing and/or operating technologies in IT infrastructure in a production environment.
• The Systems Manager is expected to be a team player, provide and be receptive to feedback, and comfortable dealing with unknowns.
• Manage and overseeing vendors, particularly a managed services vendor.
• Work with various cloud providers (ex. Oracle, Azure).
• Oversee the engineering team responsible for the design of infrastructure solutions and projects necessary to meet business and application requirements, coordinate with the Managed Service Provider.
• Ensure compliance with technical policies and standards and work with Architects to create or modify as necessary to ensure the best solution.
• Provide technical guidance and coaching (OJT) to team members including cross training personnel, administering performance reviews, and developing training plans.
• Manage and motivate team of analysts responsible for the incident management and day to day operations of selected systems, platforms, and/or products as well as identify improvements to help reduce unplanned outages and missed SLAs.
• Work with the managed service provider to ensure SLAs are met and where they are not, work with the provider to develop a plan of action to get back on track.
• Hold regular meetings with the managed service provider to discuss work, resolve issues, and future direction of the organization with regards to new technologies and processes.
• Ensure managed service provider compliance with organizational policies and standards.
• Responsible for managing the team's budget.
• Establish and maintain the technical capabilities required for successful operation of the engineering organization.
• Perform administrative duties such as scheduling coverage, approving timesheets, contractor receipts in Oracle, monthly account transfers, and works with and monitors all vendor work.
• Review and approve of design packages before they are released to the managed service provider.
• Conduct duties on behalf of Director as delegated.
• Perform other related tasks and assignments as required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree and a minimum eight (8) years full time work-related experience or
• Master's Degree and a minimum six (6) years full time of work-related experience

• Must be able to work with architecture, development, vendors, and other engineering teams to develop specifications and requirements that comply with security, architectural, and infrastructure policies. Required
• Must have experience designing, developing, implementing and/or operating technologies in IT infrastructure in a production environment. Required
• Solid understanding of end to end technology stacks which include but are not limited to operating systems, network, applications, and databases. Required
• Proven experience troubleshooting complex system issues and outages as well as conducting root cause analysis. Required
• Must be proven communicators, demonstrating good oral, written and presentation skills and have experience working with Microsoft Office or similar suite. Required
• Strong organization and project management skills. Required
• 2+ years of managerial/supervisory experience and managing budgets. Required
• Knowledge and understanding of monitoring processes and tools, particularly from an infrastructure viewpoint. Required
• Ability to recruit, develop, and retain staff. Required
• Current certification in an IT infrastructure discipline (ex. CCNA, Azure). Preferred
• Project Management Professional (PMP) or equivalent certification. Preferred
• Experience with Agile concepts and methodologies and the ability to apply them in an IT environment. Preferred
• Experience managing and overseeing vendors, particularly a managed services vendor. Preferred
• Knowledge of and experience working with various cloud providers (ex. Oracle, Azure). Preferred

• Driver's License Required

• Sit or stand to use a keyboard, mouse, and computer for the duration of the workday

• Must be able to respond to Company emergencies by performing a System Emergency Assignment to restore service to our customers.
• Candidate must be able to follow the company safety, health and environmental programs. Ensures that safe work practices are followed, and the environment is fully protected in accordance with Company policy and governmental regulations.
• Candidate should be available to be on call and/or participate in off-hour system maintenance and troubleshooting.
• Candidate must have a valid driver's license and ability and willingness to travel within the O&R and CECONY service territory as required.
