Position Overview
Position Summary |
This position is an advanced, or lead grounds position. The employee maintains the grounds, equipment, supplies and is certified in pesticide applications. |
Primary Function of Organizational Unit |
To provide landscaping, recycling, waste and sanitation services to the university.
Knowledge - Technical
- Extensive knowledge in the area of grounds and landscaping. He is certified in pesticides and can operate and maintain all equipment such as: riding and standing mowers, tractors, front-end loaders, excavators, skid steers, snow plows, lifts, chainsaws, and hedge clippers. He is also certified to operate any lifts on campus.
- Knowledge of grounds and equipment and techniques. Skilled in the use of ground equipment. Have the ability to follow written and oral instructions. Mows and trims lawns and shrubberies to a height using hand and power trimmers, and performs other ground keeping tasks as requested. This position picks up trash and other debris from the grounds in the assigned area.
Safety and Health Compliance
- Performs routine servicing of tools and equipment to ensure safe operations. He also ensures that he and others have the proper personal protective equipment.
- Safety and Health Compliance: This position is responsible for providing team lead services. Monitor team to ensure work is being completed as assigned, conducting safety talks, confirming equipment is in working condition. Additional duties include serving as safety officer to ensure all safety precautions are observed in handling equipment or chemicals relative to the trade; and conducts daily, weekly, and monthly in-services about equipment and product usage. Ensure proper protective equipment is worn as assigned (gloves, goggles, work boots, etc.).

- Anticipates customer needs and addresses the issues promptly and respectfully.
- Customer Service: Listens and responds to customer and co-worker needs promptly and respectfully. Leads team in customer by example.
Communication
- Communication: Communicates with fellow workers and others that lead to tasks being completed.

- Has the ability to assist in other areas of facilities when problem solving. Works well with others.
- Interpersonal Skills: Listens to and provides instructions, asks and answers necessary questions to complete tasks.
