The Highlights:
The Assistant Director of Pre-health Advising provides comprehensive pre-health advising to DePaul students interested in pursuing graduate health professions programs. They are one of two pre-health advisors who are part of the College of Science and Health's (CSH) Office of Advising and Student Services and split the pre-health advising caseload 50-50. The Assistant Director's responsibilities include advising DePaul pre-professional students, including Pathways Honors Program students, and alumni interested in graduate health professions programs. The Assistant Director develops programming, workshops, and events for pre-health students, fosters and nurtures partnerships with faculty and staff across DePaul, and networks with external organizations to provide opportunities for pre-health students (e.g., shadowing, volunteering, leadership development). Splits the academic advising caseload of Pathways Honors Program students 50-50 with the other pre-health advisor and advises Post-baccalaureate Pre-health Program students. The Assistant Director directly reports to the senior assistant dean for student success.

What You'll Do:



  • Provides holistic pre-health advising to DePaul students and recent alums interested in pursuing graduate health professions programs and coaches students on navigating their application processes. Advisement includes professional school prerequisite course planning, exploring experiential learning, clinical, and leadership opportunities (e.g., shadowing, volunteering, research), 1:1 and group advising, and exploring health professions.
  • Splits the academic advising caseload of Pathways Honors Program students 50-50 with the other pre-health advisor and advises Post-baccalaureate Pre-health Program students. Supports the student-facing administration of the Pathways Honors Program.
  • Partners with the Career Center and University Center for Writing-based Learning to coordinate personal statement, resume writing, and mock interview workshops. Serves as an ex-officio member of the Pre-health Advising Committee (PAC). Drafts a percentage of the PAC's committee letters of recommendation with the other pre-health advisor and leaders on the committee.
  • Designs and facilitates presentations for Pathways Honors Program students at Premiere DePaul and Transition DePaul new student orientation and networks with prospective students and their guests at recruitment events.
  • Partners closely with fellow members of the CSH Office of Advising and Student Services and collaborates with CSH faculty and other DePaul advising staff and stakeholders to ensure awareness of and advocacy for pre-health students. Participates in NAAHP national and regional conferences to stay abreast of and incorporate pre-health advising trends and best practices.

What You'll Need:


  • Bachelors degree is required
  • Masters degree in higher education, education, counseling, student affairs, or related fields is preferred
  • One to three years of experience in advising, event planning, admissions or equivalent in a university of graduate health professions school setting.

  • Some evening and weekend hours may be required during peak operation and to participate in recruitment events. Participates in annual Commencement and College of Science and Health Honors Celebration



The anticipated hiring range for this position is: $47,783.00 to $59,000.00 per year.
The salary range provided in this posting reflects what we reasonably expect to pay for this position. Actual compensation offered or earned is dependent on experience, education and other factors including departmental budget.
